tranny swap

i have a 93 ciera the tcc solenoid is bad it has a 3 speed (3T40)transmission ,i need to find out if a 4 speed w/od(4T40e) will work in it ?it is in the same model and year vehicle the only difference i see is the plug on the 4 speed has 5 pins and the 3 speed has 4 pins they both have the same amount of wires and are the same color ,can the plug be changed ?

Not too familiar with this stuff but I do know that the 4t40e is electronic and the 3t40 is hydraulic. Hence the "e" for electronic... I can advise you to go to http://autorepair.about.com/cs/doityourself/l/aa011703b.htm though. It's the step by step procedure for replacing the tcc solenoid on the 3t40. It's up to you though, I'll leave that to your discretion on which one you'd rather do. I'm not even for sure if the 4t40e is even compatible with your car. Check with a GM dealer and cross-referrence the part numbers. Good luck!
