Wiper problems

So, when it rains, every so often, while my wipers are set on either low or intermittent, they stop in a random place, at random times. I can't move them unless I turn them on to high. Turning them to a lower setting or up to low doesn't work, nor does using washer fluid, as that seems to be broken when my wipers freeze too. I don't know if its a fuse, the motor, or the unit switch itself. anyone have any experience with this? thanks

To determine if it is the wiper motor/circuit board assembly or multifunction switch it needs to be properly troubleshot using wiring diagrams.

From your symptoms I would lean toward a bad pulse board, but as Bob stated the only way to be 100% sure is by proper troubleshooting.

is this something a (2% knowledge of cars) type guy like me can do alone or should I get help?

To start what year and model Grand Prix is this? The first step is proper documentation like a wiring diagram from the factory service manual.

Just send me a PM with your regular email address and I'll send you a PDF file with useable wiring diagrams for the 97-98 years.
