2004 Maxima Bucking

Greetings everyone,
Haven't been on the Forum in quite some time and happy to be back. Here is the story, my wife borrowed my Max and filled up with 87 Octane. 2 days later, the Max started bucking between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd. It then would do the same when downshifting. I checked for codes with my OBD and nothing. I did notice some sediment on the battery terminal and cleaned it off as well as refilling the tank with 93. Since then the issue hasn't reoccured but the Max is running rough. A/T Fluid is good, Oil recently changed 5w30, no leaks appear.

I am thinking Trans issue, maybe a Fuel Sensor problem from the 87 or maybe even damage to the catalyst. Any and all insight is welcomed.
Thanks,
KC

Tranny uses throttle position sensor TPS as input. Can cause problems... measure for linear resistance transition plus run self diag.

TPS is used on engine ctrl - only when cold. Problems should be more severe before warmup (if TPS is problem source).

Next, contact cleanup time.

Hei Nah,
I will search for the sensor to see if possible corrosion is the culprit and run diags. One thing I have noticed is that at Startup the RPM's shoot past 2000 and level out just below 1000.

Hi heard that word somewherlsinki :)

Mileage?

Startup & idle problems may be dirty/jamming idle ctrl valve (after 60k ? miles) and or air leak after MAF, or just bad MAF.

If the problem(s) persist, I'd also find a test/replacement MAF from JY and make a try. Asthmatic MAF could cook up all these tricks... and still play healthy through diagnostics.

Hey Nah,
The mileage is 46,945 on the 2004 3.5 SL. I will work the process of elimination on the MAF and ICV. No codes continue to show.
Thanks,
KC

... No codes continue to show.

The problem is in the codesystem: as always, pre designed codes only represent those problems that the designers can imagine at factory floor. Alas, life is bigger than human imagination ... at least my troubles wont honor any code.

The codes help in generating more revenue for stealerships '$wapping dptmts' (aka service), I fear thats the main function :(

For intermittent problems the only way is to swap and wait ... IACV should not be dirty (?) at that mileage.
