Spyders first meal of the year

I pulled my Spyder out of storage on the first. Got all the fluids changed out battery replaced, washed, waxed (although it was inside all winter) and tires remounted - not necessarily in that order.

I took it out for a drive and it was running quite smoothly so I decided to open it up a bit. Apparently the BMW 325i next to me thought I was trying to egg him into a race. He stomped on it and went around me (remember I wasn’t racing, just accelerating a bit). A mile or so down the road we came to a stop light. Fortunately I was able to get pretty much up next to him. I looked over and he’s sitting there laughing and pointing at me. To be honest I have not seen that kind of behavior before. I guessed that this is one of the local kids out on spring break tooling around in the folks car.

Normally I let the cars go that I way overmatch. Not this time.

I waved my hand to get him to take a left at the light so we could head out of town and match them up again. He nodded and I let him merge over into my lane when the light turned and we headed down 131 to the next light. After that its two lanes for about a mile before it merges into one. (I didn’t need nearly that much space, but we had it). We took our time getting to the light and were sure to catch it.

The guy was in good spirits and I was confident the car was ready to have its first meal of the year. He’s revving in his lane so I knew he had the five speed in there which should give him a little help. I leaned over and checked the boost controller. It was set at one bar. I thought about lowering it, but I want this race to be over in a hurry (as opposed to my telling of it).

Anyway to make a short story longer. The light turns green and I hit one of my better launches in the car. The temperature was only in the forties so I managed to chirp all four tires on the launch and away I went. A split second after I hit it, I heard his tires screaming for grip. He had no idea how to drive off the line in that car. Within a few seconds I had beaucoup car lengths on him and it was over before it began.

I slowed down waited for him to pull up next to me. It took a minute. He kept slowing down when I did. Didn’t look like he wanted to do anything but follow me. Eventually he pulled up alongside. I motioned to go again and he nodded. No smirk this time though. I down shifted to second and was ready to try from a 20 mph roll (yes we had slowed down that far). I did the hand 3 – 2 – 1. This time I made sure he left before I did. Soon as I heard him go, I really stomped on it. All four tires grabbed the pavement and again I waxed him by multiple car lengths in a several seconds.

At this point, he lost all interest in running any more. To bad, so sad, I was having fun beating up on the Beamer. He turned off a bit further down after the roads merged so I couldn’t tell him thanks and better luck next time.

Of course its snowing again. Calling for a few inches over the next few days. I am "still" waiting for global warming. So for now I’ve put it away for the next week. I have my 94 on the sale block so I should take it out next and give it one more race before its gone. If I get a good one, I’ll let you guys know how it went.

The punk might have thought it was a NA or even a SOHC 3000GT, in which case his Bimmer probably could have pulled it.

Nice kill Yogs :)

Thanks all. :)

Self - I have the 94 priced at 11,500. With the way the rotten weather has come back here, I don't think anyones going to come looking for the car for a couple weeks.

Cbass - yeah. If it were the SL Sypder, it would have been a lot closer and that BMW may very well have been faster.

Amish_kid - Mods are open air filter. gutted pre-cats, no main cat, boost controller, underdrive pully, HKS BOV (not much for anything but that happy whoosh sound ;) ) 450 injectors, it now has a Borla exhaust which has a very nice sound to it. I've never had it on a dyno so I don't know what its getting to the wheels, but it runs real strong for a heavy car.

What modifications, if any, have you done to the one you are selling?

Just a replacement K&N filter. I know, I would have had better performance for the mods if I put them on the 94, but I really liked how it ran and handled stock, so I left it that way.

what a dumbass. he must've thought that vr4 badge on the back of your car was a fake. hahah anyways, nice kill. but bimmers aren't that quick non the less, and this match was totally miss matched, but the kid got what he deserved. you crushed his ego. congrats :smoka:
