Front Bearing Type

Has anyone had experience changing out front bearings with NTP bearings from Advanced Auto? These are less than the Timkin, but I wanted to get some feedback from you as to the quality before purchasing.

I have chnaged out 5 bearings in 150000 km, Timken was my first and it failed at like 60000k the cheaper ones were similar. The last time I changed them I was told by the guy I should torque them a little bit lighter to see if they last longer, so far so good.

Stick with the BCA National or AC Delco hubs. More expensive but worth it or you will be replacing the hubs more often than you should. We used the AC Delco replacment hubs on our '02 GL2. Delco hubs come with the 3 hub to spindle bolts with pre-applied threadlocker and a new axle nut. There are two types of axle nuts that require different torque figures. See below.

BTW - Always use what the hub maker or GM specifies for torque values using a torque wrench for proper bearing preload.




There are two different axle nut designs, therefore the possibility of two different torque values. There is a PAC Nut which most '99 and up Aleros should have but also, there is a second design. First design (Black PAC Nut) is 284 ft-lbs with a new axle nut. The old axle PAC Nut should not be reused. Second design (solid gray) is 173 ft-lbs.

I went ahead and changed out with the NTP. I have 160K on the car so if these last 60K it will probably be close to life of the car anyways so it probably isn't worth the extra cost for the better bearings for this situation.
