i have an 87 s-10 i have been working on for some time now. I know that the solenoid in starter needs to be replaced but would that cause it to lose power in 1st gear? Thought that would only cause ignition failure. If i replace solenoid will it hold power when shifting? and yes i did replace fluid in transmission. Can anyone help with that?

What's the starter solenoid got to do with power?

thats what im asking....would that have anything to do with it losing power? if not what else could cause it to lose power?

The only way the starter would cause it to lose power is if it would not start, them it would not have any power all all. So the problem has to be something else.
Years back I had a 85 S-10 4 X 4 with the small V-6, I believe it was the 2.8. In 5th gear driving on the open highway it sure did not have much power, if you wanted to pass someone you had to be sure you had a lot of room. That was really the only thing I had against it except their 5 speed manual transmission were not very good, I had to replace it at about 80,000 miles.
So in 92 I bought a new S-10 Blazer 4 X 4 with the 4.3 W engine, it has plenty of power at highway speeds and has been a great ride.

what are you referring to here, electrical Voltage Power, or engine horsepower power?
