Question about headlights

Okay , so heres my dilemma, i recently bought some hid lights but the thing is i ripped off the rubber gasket that fits behind the light to stop water from getting on it. it was a stupid thing to do but it was a mistake and anyways i was thinking is there any other ways to seal up the area behind the light? theres a big rubber stopper that came with my car but it almost covers the whole backing (this is why i ripped off the ones that came with the lights) but it doesnt quite cover all of it.. anyways i was thinking i could use silicone or maybe some high strength tape? any other ideas? what about that spray on foam stuff? i need something that will be strong and wont melt under heat

I would either use nothing, or go to a junkyard and give them $1 for another one.

HIDs operate at a high temperature, so anything combustible would be bad...no spray foam! Only silicone and some special rubber compounds can withstand those temps.

The best thing to do would be to contact the place you bought the lights from and see if they can send you some replacements.

The next best thing to do could be to try and repair the original covers if they aren't too trashed. Try to piece them back into place and use some bailing wire or clamps to hold them together and high temp silicone sealant to make them waterproof.

An alternative, though I question it myself as to its longevity or future bulb replacement, is to use the old pieces as a mold and encapsulate the light backs in high temp silicone. Piece them together as in the paragraph above but have a hole in the top to squirt the silcone into. Fill it up and then allow it to cure. Then just remove the cover part, leaving the cured silicone. Make sure high temperature silicone is used.

My vote is still for the first...get some replacements from the manufacturer. Any warranty would then still be valid.
