Paint problem

I've got a Camaro, that is yellow plastic, I've primed it with Tamiya gray primer, then white primer. The ultimate finish color is to be semi gloss white.

The white primer is turning a slight yellow(ish) color. It's not been in the sun. It has been in the box. Any ideas why I've got this yellowing going on and how to keep it from turning yellow once the finish coat(s) of paint are on?

Search was used however, all I could come up with is "yellowing decals".

It is most likely the yellow color of the plastic bleeding thru the primers. This is a common problem, particularly with high contrasting colors placed on top of one another and something that should always be concern when painting white.

Try using a primer-sealer. These are design to prevent this from happening. It is not the same as primer but many of these primer-sealers are safe enough for plastic.

I use the Dupli-Color Paint Shop Pro system. It has a very dark gray primer-sealer but I've had no problems painting white on top of it.

I never had that problem even in similar situations. Try that primer-sealer stuff. I, in ur situation, would just sand the entire body very good w/ 600grit and apply primer as usual. Good luck man.

can this be done with thicker (extra layers) of white primer? i am guessing that you have very shallow primer layer...i've yet to try any light colors but i was just wondering.

Problem solved. I used flat black, then Tamiya primer. Now, I just have to get some time to complete it..:shakehead

I find it kind of funny you should post this. I've been going through my old builds, sorting things, and trying to finish up the 18 million model projects I have going. I think I found parts for 3 or 4 different c5 Z06's. Glad you got the problem solved.
