damn beemersss

so i'm on the road yesterday on my way to get a hair cut. a guy in a late model 740il cuts me off. so i cut him off and get in front of him, and when he tries to pass i don't let him. we come to the traffic light which is red. this guys like 60 years old, so i figure i'll leave it at that. light turns green and he guns it. so i realize he's tryin to race, he's already out front thou. i try to catch up to him and when i finally do there is construction so i can't get anywhere. THOSE CARS ARE FAST! and i guess this isn't a real race story because i had no idea he'd take off from the light that quick, but I'm having second thoughts as to whether i'd win that race straight up or not.

Actually, he would or can, if the model designation he saw was correct and it was stock. The 740il was built till 2000, and ran mid/low 15's. Now, if it was a 2001 and up model 740i, those things run mid 14's, which he may still keep up with an RSX-S, but probably not beat.

was definitely not a 2001 or above model.

Those cars weigh like 4,000 pounds, if you beat him he probably would bash you off the road to get even, some of those old guys are taking Viagra and...

llooll on a more serious note, did anyone one else hear about what happened at the gw parkway (in d.c.) about 3 months ago? 2 guys were racing one another, one in a brand new 540 and the other in a 5 series benzo. the guy in the beemer won the race, so the guy in the benz got out, shot the other guy and his car up (killed him) and took off. what he didn't take into account was the fact that there are cameras all around the gw parkway so he was 'caught on tape' oh, and did i mention, both of the drivers were in their late 50's

geez...old guys taking a loss serious....glad i don't race or can keep up with them:(

Cutting each other off is a good way to end up in a crumpled car. To bad you guys didn't get a clean start from the light though. Sounds like it would have been a close one.

The purpose of cutting someone off is to make them have a fright-reaction, which could cause them to lose control. Yea, great fun. Sure, out of a million tries, nothing may happen, but what about when it does just that once???

agreed. maybe i shouldn't have cut the person off, however, the point of the thread was to ask whether i would have won that race or not. no reason for kidrocket and you to bring a whole separate subject up. i acknowledge i shouldn't have cut him off, but in the spur of the moment, sometimes one doesn't think.

My old man did that with his Volvo he kinda raced an Eclipse the Eclipse thought he was racing but he only did it so he could get in front to turn right

needless to say the Eclipse apparently lost by a large margin

a friend of mine has a 95 740 and it's pretty fast

i think it would be pretty close just because of how heavy it is
