1984 jeep problem help

alright i have a 1984 jeep wagoneer 4x4 (cherokee body style) with a carb. 2.8 when it is cold it has no problems but when it has been running for about 5 min or warm at all when you floor it it will sputter out and die. but when its cold and you floor it it raps really quick and sounds clean with no blow by at all but if when its warm i easily give it gas it will rap just fine but if i take it to like 3k then floor it it will do it if i go to any rpm and floor it it does it. i live on the high way and really sucks to take 3 miles to get up to 60mph

i have a new fuel pump fuel filter i have put carb gas treatment in twice the whole bottle each time recomended 25 gal i put it in at 15 gal it will do it with or without the air filter assy on i have been told the carb needs rebuilding the tank is not venting right the pump is bad the injectors in the carb i am stumped

could the timing be off it does sound like an exhaust leak that ticking sound but it is all sealed up nice i think it may be slight spark knock

any thoughts yes swapping a 3.4 would be cool but i dont have the feciality to do it or the money to buy the engine or else i already would have

I had the exact same problem on a car that I had...we rebuilt the carburetor (incorrectly, it turns out) and it would run great until it warmed up, then have absolutely no power.

IMO a new carb will take care of it; but before you go to that expense, check all the vacuum hoses in the engine compartment, on some carbureted vehicles lack of vacuum can cause issues.

ok i have checked and all the vacuum is hooked up and there is no leakes

IMO after 25 years you need a new carburetor. Or it could be rebuilt.

Napa makes good rebuilding kits. Soak in cleaner or boil in an old pan for 20 minutes rolling boil with all rubber parts removed.
Follow the directions completely. Use compressed air or carburetor cleaner and clean out all orifices. Use a vacuum pump and check all vacuum pull offs.
Use a table where you can find any items you may drop. Take your time and finish the job.

It sounds like the auto choke is not opening. or has a weak spring and closes when you press the gas. I have had a couple of vehicles do this.

There is an adjustment for mid throttle fuel enrichment that needs to be opened slightly. I went round and round when these were newer, You'll need the double "D" shaped socket to turn it. Also make sure that if you have the electric mixture actuator at the rear of the carb that the mixture pins are moving when you look down the bowl and rev it up and down. Ifits stuck or nonfunctional mid throttle performance will suck and bog/surge.
