1997 Passport, 2wd, automatic V6, 225,000 miles, Timing belt 18,000 miles old. It's been running sluggish the past week, especially when over 110 outside, it doesnt burn oil, idle is steady even under a load.
Autozone read code P0341 which is the camshaft position sensor. Posible causes are
1. Engine mechanical condition so I changed plugs (denso), air filter and added some fuel injector cleaner. Reset CEL by disconnecting the negative cable.
2. Faulty sensor, took it out cleaned it, cleaned the camshaft magnet that trips the sensor, checked the wiring, Reset the CEL by disconnecting the negative cable
3. Faulty crankshaft sensor. I have no idea where it is.
Is their any history of these sensors actually failing, they are rather pricy. Are their any other causes I should look at?

Ok, I changed out the Camshaft Sensor $39.00 at NAPA and the check engine light is now off. However, it is still very sluggish from a dead stop. Any ideas?

The only thing I can suggest, and mostly from my experience with my VW, is to check the timing. I know you say the belt is only 18K old, but I wonder if you skipped a tooth or 2.
