Bring it back and insist the dealer gets you a remote.

What model '05 is this? Only certain models come with the key fob with remote start. My '08 GXP has it.

The SPID label located under the spare tire cover in the trunk area has the GM RPO codes for keyless entry and other options. Let me know if you need them.

Plus the numbers on the back of the key fob have to match the vehicle.Any dealership will tell you which one it is with the VIN on hand.

So you have a base model so high probability you do not have remote start keyless entry system. You have to know what the codes mean. The GM RPO code for basic keyless entry is AU0. For keyless entry with remote start it is AP3. So see if the SPID label has either of these codes.

Send me a Private Message with your VIN number and we can check to see if your Grand Prix should have the remote keyless entry feature.

I got him squared away Bob. His car came with just standard remote start. It's kinda odd, because he has no option codes for it, but it shows a receiver and transmitter for his VIN.

Thanks Rich. So just standard ignition with no remote start option.

On the factory remote start feature applicable to to '04 and up model Grand Prixs there is more than meets the eye and the system is quite interesting. Obviously a BCM module is needed that supports the feature along with other hardware and most likely an enhanced DIC since all keyless entry and remote start functions are displayed on the DIC. At least that is what my GXP has. Big improvement over the previous generation. :grinyes:

Don't look too far because you cannot program the key fob yourself. :grinno: A GM Tech II scan tool is required which means a visit to a GM dealership. Charge could range from $20 - $80 or free depending on your service history with the dealership.

Nope! For example we have the programming instructions posted for the '05 - '08 GXP model but it doesn't do any good without a GM Tech II scan tool. See link below. '04 and up - base, GT and GTP/Comp G are the same.

Do you have a keyless entry key fob(remote for door locks)? If you do, and the remote start button is not on it, chances are you don't....

But it won't be the first time, a wrong key fob was programmed for a car....

You are looking for the SPID label.....usual locations are the glove box, underneath the rear trunk lid, or top/bottom of the hard cover of the spare......need to know the code to read the label.....

Otherwise, you go to ANY GM dealer, smile at the Service Writer or Manager, give them your VIN #, and they can look up in a matter of seconds, the vehicle build of your vehicle......ask for a printout.....all the codes and what they mean will be listed for your vehicle.....

OR,

Maybe our resident GM consultant will see this post and you can send her your VIN #, and she will email the vehicle build spreadsheet for your car....

If you give Sarah your VIN number, she can see which options you have and possibly give you the correct number on the back of the key fob......but remember, the fob has to be programmed to your car.....a locksmith or dealer will have to do it....

I see I am going to have to send the lady from GM a PM, the daughters idiot just bought an 06 GP, seems to be pretty well loaded, he got 1 PK3 key with it and no remotes.

So the consensus is the dealer has to do all the programming for the key and remote?

GM take another step backwards?

My pontiac montana I can program the new keys and remotes into the van, but since I am in CANADA I need 2 keys.

The remote programming for sure must be done at the GM dealer.

As for the key as long as you have the master PK3 key you should be able to add spares DIY. See link.

Programming a PK3 key is easy if you have a Master key.....insert key into cylinder, turn to on(don't start), when SECURITY light goes out, remove key... within 5 seconds, install new key and turn on(don't start), when SECURITY light goes out, turn key to off....key is programmed and will start car....

As for key fob, a Tech II scan tool is needed......

Is your check engine light on? If it's on it disables remote start.
