Hello,

I have this chirping sound at first engine start with my Jeep Cherokee GC especially when i turn on the aircon inside. I check and seems its on the drive belt. But after a while, it will be GONE after sometime. I already replaced the belt with the new one, but still the chirping sound at first start still exist.

I dont want this chirping sound when i start the jeep. Well it would be ok after sometime but it will be better if theres no sound at all. How will i fix this noise?

Is there anybody with similar experience ?

Remove the belt and check the other related components, idler pulley bearings, alternator, water pump. Clean the pulleys with shop solvent.

Hello Toddman,

I checked yesterday the pulley and dive belt, put on bearing grease but still theres a little chirping sound.

My Mechanic told me to replace the bearing guide in the AUTO supply market. Thanks again for your advise.

Hello Toddman,

I also buy dressing belt and seems effective as well. Hopefully the squeking sound will be gone for a long time.

Hello Toddman,

I also buy dressing belt and seems effective as well. Hopefully the squeking sound will be gone for a long time.

Yesterday the squeking sound returned. So the belt dressing is not that effective. I went again to the shop and the " reliable mechanic " told me to buy the ORIGINAL belt for Grand Cherrokee 1998 model and cost me a higher amount of money. We installed the belt and presto! THE SQUEAKING sound is gone. The previous belt that was used is new but NOT ORIGINAL . The mechanic told me it must be the belt that causing the squeaking sound since when im running and the belt and pulley are hot, the squeking sound is gone. But when its cold overnight and parked in longer hours and at first start the squeaking sound is there .

Lesson : Buy the right and Original belt designed for the jeep in your supplier" .
