Hi, the trouble code: P0440 Gas cap not working, Purge solenoid failed canister is plugged. Would any of the following stop gas from going into the tank normally? I can't seem to put fuel in now with out the pump kicking off as if the tank were full. So I have to fill it very slowly.

I do not think it should but it is always possible. Sounds like some thing is in the neck of the gas tank.

Look under there and see if the fill neck hose is kinked or smashed causing it to back flow.

Hey all, well I replaced the hose it was not blocked but it was more "S" shaped then I thought so I used a different hose not the correct one just to test the flow as the correct hose that goes from the fuel neck to the tank is a dealer part and it is of course $60.00. Now as mentioned before the Service Engine Soon light was on and after I replaced the hose the light was still on I went to the station put gas in and the same damn thing 2 to 3 seconds later the pump cut off on an almost empty gas tank. Ok so I put about a 1/2 tank slowly in and went out to dinner then Best Buy. On the way home I noticed the Service Engine Soon light was out. Hmmm.. I had to know if I was going to be able to put fuel in now. Guess what? the tank filled up as normal no issues what so ever. What could the computer control that would interrupt the fuel flow into the tank?

As far as I know there is nothing that stops the fuel flow in to the tank. It sound like the old hose had a leak in it to cause the gas cap DTC to pop up.

Hi, The old hose did not have a leak. Also how would a leak effect fuel flow? As I mentioned before the problem persisted after I replaced the hose. This is just plain wierd. Maybe the gas tank has a loose baffle and that caused it? It may have caused the flow to be blocked and the vapor recovery system to malfunction so when the baffle moved again both issues were fixed. Total guess but what else is there.

Well something Ive noticed from time to time, some gas stations nossles are just broken or crap and shut off just as you explained..
The BP I usualy goto had 3-4 new nossles and they did this to me everytime I used them. I complained and went to a pump that worked. Now they all seem to work fine. :dunno:
If it does it again try repositioning the nossle in the fill neck.

I thought of that too. I did reposition the nozzle many times. I went to 4 different pumps then another gas station 5 min later same thing. Once the light was gone so was the problem. I am a good canidate for the cash for clunkers program. You may loose me..lol

Well glad you figured this out.
Btw the cash for clunkers is only towards a NEW car.
I got a few I'd trade in, but I'm not willing to buy something new....
... well except for a Nissan skyline gtr (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/73/Nissan_Skyline_R34_GT-R_N%C3%BCr_001.jpg), though I want right hand drive. :evillol:
