Programming key fob for 2007 Buick Rendezvous

Hi, I'm a newbie with a question. I bought a remote key fob on ebay for my 2007 Buick Rendezvous and I would like to know if there is a way that I can program it myself without going to a dealer. I saw that this exact question was asked and answered for a 2002 Rendezvous http://www.automotiveforums.com/t107613-programming_key_fob_for_02_buick_rendezvous.html but the answer doesn't seem to work for my 2007.

The key fob I bought came with a set of instructions for programming it manually, but following the instructions does not get me into the "programming mode" in the car. Basically, it says that I am supposed to close all doors, windows, etc, put the key in the ignition and wait for the lights to go off. Then hold down unlock button on the door and turn the ignition key to on/off/on/off and then let go of the unlock button. This does not work. Can anyone here tell me what steps will work?

Thanks.

Not sure if you ever got an answer for this. Just performed that procedure on my 2007, but had to press the UNLOCK button (hold UNLOCK, key-in, key-out, key-in, key-out, key-in, release UNLOCK). You have to hold the unlock button, not the lock button as stated previously, before you insert the key the first time. After the third key-in, release the unlock button and you should hear a few beeps. Then proceed as directed by pressing the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously until you hear more beeps to indicate the remote is programmed. Repeat for additional remotes, then remove the key from the ignition. I programmed the original key fob and the extra fob from my pickup to work with the Rendezvous since my wife rarely drives the pickup and we both often drive the Buick.

Has to be done with the Tech 2,this started about in 2001 and the old way will not work.Done with the Tech 2,done quicker than the other way

wafrederick, I was able to program two fobs on my 2007 Rendezvous this past weekend without the use of a scan tool. Procedure was as follows:

1. With vehicle off and key out of ignition, press and hold UNLOCK Button in vehicle.
2. Insert key into ignition and remove.
3. Insert key into ignition and remove.
4. Insert key into ignition.
5. Release Unlock Button. Vehicle beeps to indicate you are in programming mode.
6. Press and hold Lock and Unlock buttons on desired "Driver 1" remote simultaneously, hold for 5 seconds. Vehicle will beep to indicate successful remote programing.
7. Repeat Step 6 for "Driver 2" remote and up to two additional messages.
8. Remove key from ignition to exit programming mode

Other procedures for other cars advise to hold the LOCK button on the vehicle, rather than UNLOCK. Others have advised to insert key and turn ignition ON - OFF - ON - OFF - ON to enter programming mode instead of key-in and key-out. I suspect different vehicles require different actions but they are similar in nature. Haven't tried on my 2004 Colorado. One of the remotes I programmed was originally programed for the Colorado, but I wished to have two remotes for the Rendezvous instead.

That way way takes way too long and with the Tech 2 take about 10 seconds to do.Luckily my father does not have to go to the dealer, has the Tech 2 and does it on the spot since he does lots of GM computer work.PLus you have to make sure it is the right one by loking at the numbers of the key fob which are on the back. There is a tool made by Kent Moore to check them if they are any good and for bad batteries, the ones on Ebay which some are not good.Beeping and shows a green light when pushing the buttons with the tool on,good.

Touche, having a scan tool is always a good thing.
