2002 century abs problem

Hello auto. forumn,
This is my first post so bear with me.I own a 2002 century with a 3.1 liter engine in it. I have been having problems with the abs brake system on it.Occasionally when i step on the brake pedal the modulating motor at master cylinder will start to run even on dry roads.Sometimes the service vehicle soon light will come on.It does this going straight down the road or turning.Ive checked the wiring harness at both front wheels. It looks o.k. Does buick have a problem with this system? This vehicle doesn't have an abs light ,so Im assuming the sevice vehicle soon light is it. Can anybody out there help me out?

Welcome to AF!!
It sounds like you have a bad sensor in one of your wheels. The only was to find out which one is to have it scanned with an ABS capable scanner. When the sensor goes bad it will start to cause lockup or activation of the ABS system. Unfortunately if you find a bad sensor you will need to change the hub assembly as the sensor and bearing are one assembly.

thanksfor replying gt dad,I just bought a abs scan tool and the codes that came up was a c1216[ecbm commanded press too long],c1222 R.F. Wheel sensor,c1225 L.F.wheel sensor variation,c1226 R.F.wheel sensor varation.
Could this be a bad abs ecu? Any help would be apreciated.

It certainly sounds like the ABS computer may be malfunctioning but it is very possible that the bad sensors are causing the malfunction. Before replacing the computer I would replace both hubs. It is not an inexpensive job. If you replace them and the problem persists then you will need to change the computer. You may want to contact Ed Morad at moradpartscompany.com as he specializes in GM parts and he may be able to help you with the computer for a reasonable price.

I had intermittent ABS problems. I disconnected the main ABS connector to check continuity for all the wheels. All was well. I replugged the connector and have not had the problem since.
It was probably a slightly dirty connector. By replugging it, it was fixed because I basically did nothing else. The code told me I had erratic wheel speed.
