I just was just recently gifted an 85 cherokee with the 2.5l engine and 4-spd tranny. When I got the jeep the only lights that worked were the headlamps, so i went to checking fuse's all were ok. so I started to check grounds, all seemed ok, I checked the one on the drivers side were the harness comes through the firewall it ws fine so i took it loose to clean it up a bit my brother pulled the light switch and my parking lamps and insturment panel lights came on, so i put the ground back and they are still working. But i still have no turn signals,or horn, but i do have flashers. I have checked all the fuses and chased wireing to the back of the jeep all looks good so i dont know what else to replace or check besides the multifunction switch.

Have you checked the flasher itself for the turn signals? Im not sure about yours. But mine is an 86 and under the drivers side dash theres a fuse panel. On the top left and bottom right there are two large round "thingies" these are your flashers. One is for the turn signals, the other is for the hazard lamps. But the actual metal units themselves are interchangeable. I would figure out which one is for the hazards (they will stop working) and then put it in place of the other one to rule out a bad flasher for the turn signals.

Yeah mine has the 2 round relays or whatever you call them i replaced the one on the top and had no change on it but i didnt check the one on the bottom becouse it wouldnt come out, so i thought it wasent soposed to and the dodge parts dept said that it didnt have a signal relay, just one for flashers, but i will try to check it tomarow i also have a fuel tank leaking so im having to deal with this as well.

Its top right and bottom left. I think Im dyslexic.

At any rate, I went out and checked mine, and the one on the top right controls my hazards, so it would make sense that nothing changed. The wiring should be basically the same on our vehicles.

The one on the bottom left is for the turn signals, and should come out. If you break it, at least youve got a replacement handy.

Keep in mind that you can test any of the flashers you have on hand by putting them in place of your hazard flasher, assuming your hazard lights are still working.

In addition to the multifunction stick. RockAuto lists a "turn signal switch" for your Jeep.
Heres a link: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1179558,parttype,4832
I dont really know where that switch is though. Its covered briefly in the Chiltons and I want to say its down inside the steering column.

I had some turn signal troubles as well, mine ended up being chewed through wires, but then I found out my flasher wasnt strong enough, someone had replaced it with what I recall was a motorcycle flasher...go figure.

But I found this link helpful during the process as well:

yeah i tried switching the signal relays the other day still nothing, so im guessing its the switch, my wipers and high beams work but theres no indicator on the dash when i switch from high to low so its etheir the switch or a wireing problem.
