a/c problem 1997 venture

Hi, when I bought the car the condensor of the A/C had a leak (not working).
I replaced it and have it tested and filled now, no leaks.
No cold air though.

When I push the A/C button the sound of the motor changes.
If I look at the compressor (the part at the drive belt, right name correct?) the middle part is not moving, I can move it by hand when the engine is off.
Checked the fuses and relay and that is fine, replaced the relay with the horn relay.

The 2 blowers at the radiator where in operation when I started, was hot outside and they kicked in right away.

Can I measure something at the compressor or bypass for testing (read something about a newer model where you can make a bypass for testing.)

Please don't bypass system- you risk electrical damage to your car's computer!!

You may have a low charge refrigerant code set- unhook neg batttery terminal for 10 seconds toreset code- then compressor should come on if it has refrigerant in the system.

Other than that, the compressor air gap may be too wide-

Battery unhooked, no change.
Measured the voltage at the connector of the compressor, when airco switch is on I measure 14 V so that part is working.

I don't have a measuring tool for the air gap at the moment, will get it.

So if the air gap is ok, is the compressor fixable or should it be completely be replaced?

If air gap is okay, then you have a compressor coil problem- which is also replaceable--

If air gap is too wide, then you can adjust it with a "borrowed" tool from Autozone.

Hi, the air gap is ok, so I will have to replace the compressor coil.
Do you know where to get one? Searched ebay but was not there.
I live in the Netherlands so I will need some online store.
