Battery neg to Engine?

Hi,

I am preparing to upgrade the "BIG 3" cables and I find that the negative cable from the battery is grounded to the engine, not the frame. I have looked a little but it was getting dark so I didn't look that hard but I don't see a ground strap at the block.

Does it not have the standard neg from bat to frame and ground from block to frame or has someone messed with it in the past? I have had the truck for over a year and just now tinkering with it, have had no problems with the truck.

Also, is that strap always at the back of the block and if so, why? just wondering if placement matters.

It is a 92 s10 blazer 4X4, 4.3L TBI

Thanks for any help!

I doubt if it matters. Grounding to the engine is fine. The older Chevies all grounded to the engine. My 57 was grounded at the water pump bolt. Usually the engine is grounded to the frame anyway. That strap for engine grounding is usually around the bottom of the bell housing, but it really doesn't matter.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I never did find a ground strap so I added one.

Thanks for the input

You should have the battery negative cable grounded to the engine.
Just make sure there are no non-metallic bushings interfering with the grounding. From there, you should have at least one ground strap from the engine to the firewall. I have two factory grounds from the engine to the firewall.
