Hey guys, this is my first ever model, and it just happens to be a car taht i own in real life, a 1995 single turbo supra :), there was a member on supraforums who posted up his works, and i immediatly got on the internet and started searching, well it finally came i nthe mail yesterday, and today after about 5 hours of work here is where im at :
the turbo and headers are completly custom, .062, and .112? (i think) in soldering wire, some copper pipe, and a lot of bending and rebending. the fitment was VERYYYY close, lol but with a turbo like that what can you expect?

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/aemravan/1-24%20scale%20supra/IMG_7278.jpg
first fitment check, sitting WAYY high, i was temped to cut a hole in the hood, but figured my first build will be a "street" car

are you leaving the turbo like that??

no, i still need to put more dteail into it, and the downpipe was only to check clearance, thats not what im using. i need to run oil lines and all the turbo goodies for the turbo. as far as the turbine itself, i havent decided whether or not i'll put an air filter on or keep it off, if i keep it off i'll come up with some sort of turbine blades to put in there

oh and all the "scuffs" you see on the turbo in the pics are pratically invisible, my camera just has a really powerfull flash and reflect ALLL of the imperfections, and wit hthe help of shadows makes the scuffs look REALLY deep, they arent.

thank you steve, and thank you for getting me into this man! its pretty crazy how much sitting in one spot cutting, glueing, and painting plastic/ custom turbos can be :)
here are some more pictures after tonites work, the taillights are in the process of being restored, its not too hard, definatly not as hard as i thought it would be to work with the putty, but i know for a fact im not ready to use it on the body :), anyways, the engine is together finally (first time i used glue since i started working on it) and a lot of the chassis parts are painted, yo ucant really tell, but the valve covers and the manifold are a really nice chrome color.
i used just some basic Testors spray paint for every so far, i dont think im ready to invest into more expensive Tamiya paint... or is really that expensive?
here are the pics:

here are a bit more pictures from tonite, the progress doesnt seem like much, but its really taking a lot of time getting the tailights rebuilt to wehre the hatch closes just rigth as well as lines up like it should, if i had to do it over again, i think i wouldnt have cut it out , lol, or take a little bit more time to do it, but oh well, you live and learn i gues, if anything i'll just use this body on my drag supra that i want to build next, that would probably have a parachute that would cover most of what has been cut out, but anyways, there is a little something in progress on the A-pillar as well :)

the leds look killer, I really like the ac lights. I meant to ask what did you make the turbo blanket out of?

i made the turbo blanket by taking the same copper pipe i used on the inside of the turbo and cuting it flat (into a rectangle) then i stretched aluminum foil over it (after giving the copper pipe its shape ofcourse)
thank you on the LEDs, they look even better in person man. im thinking about designing a stand that has the batteries and quick connect wires running out of it so i can power the car up.

i decided to go with some Volk racing TE37's for the rims, i believe they are 19" but cant remember which ones i ordered... would anyone happen to know a paint that would match the volk racing bronze pretty close???

here are some pics, nothing really new, but i ditched the old turbo for a better, cleaner version, which has a MUCH better heatshield on it, this one is actual aluminum sheeting.

and here is what i casted out of Lead today :), not half bad! the color of lead is a bit dull, so i painted one in chrome, it was just a quick test paint to see what color would look like, but the sizing of the turbo i put on mycar, and these here are a bit smaller and more realistic then the previous one i had, this one actually clears the strut tower and hood closes VERY well. i might be making more molds for smaller hot sides, as well as compressor housing.

little update, i got my braided hoses today, so hopefully toniet i'll be able to detail the engine up a little bit. i painted the engine bay and the little boxes that go in it , that was a pain, and doesnt look all to great since i dont have a tiny brush yet, but will do for my first model untill i get a nice brush :)
anyways, i ditched the soundsystem idea and put the seats back in, it wasnt working out the way i hoped, but instead i decided to do a roll cage :) coming out good so far, i still need to sand and decide wat color to paint it.

i also tried to make a little turbine that goes inside the turbo, al the parts are sooo small its practically imposible to work with, but again, it will do for now :) especially if i put an air filter on it.

i also finished the intercooler, and it doesnt look half bad, although i think i'll be making another one, it looks prety realistic in the car, but once again, with the flash on the camera all the details and imperfections come out

quick update, i made a bit more progress on the engine bay today. i made a custom oil catch can and mounted it, but still have to run braided lines to it once the engine is installed. i also decided to replicate the break lines that run accross the firewall b/c i looked really naked. it isnt 100% replicated as i only ran 2 out of the 4 lines that go into the ABS unit but i did this b/c it was really the only way to make it look clean and visible with the body on the chasis. oh, and i also made the line that runs to the slave cylinder on the tranny :)
i also took apart the pulley assembly and made my own so i could make a realistic belt for it, im not 100% satisfied with how i mounted the pulleys back, but it will definatly help when building the next model, i think it still made it look a bit more realistic then the plastic painted belt:

i got major updates, between yesterday and today i got ALOT done, engine installed, interior mounted, wires ran, ect. keep in mind this is my first model....so the paint under the hood is messed up big time b/c i was too impatient and used a big brush since i didnt have a little one... its messy and i might clean it up later... but anyways, please pay attention to the little details:
i started off by redoing my crappy intercooler, this one wasnt perfect, but came out MUCH better then the last

thanks man, i'll admit, i was pretty surprised at how all the custom parts came out, only if i took more time and have been patient getting the right brush it would have looked 10000 times better under the hood, but we live and learn i gues, next model wont have the same mistakes :)

I like how much detail you're putting into it. Looks very busy...must've been tricky to wire it all up. Wish I knew which wires goes where.
ravan17
07-28-2009, 12:58 PM
yea its pretty busy under there, but the cool part is that every wire and hose you see under there, you can find in an actual supra. basically i recreated as many lines as possible w/out making everything look TOO messy. the lines that you see runing from the brake booster (hard lines) are break lines that run to the other side where the ABS unit is located, from there they are supposed to run back down to the brakes but i didnt bother making that b/c there wasnt much space left with the oil catch can mounted where it is. other lines include the red power wire from the batery, red power wire to the fans, a vacum line from the intake mnai to the bov, and engine harness along the pasnger side the runs from the alternator, into the fender, and back up into the cabin, then i also have a fuel return line coming from the rail back into its factory location under the car, and a throttle cable runing from the cabin to the TB.... it actually looks much cleaner if you can look at it in person and see where each wire runs.
but thanks for all the coments, they keep me going, lol. i cant wait to start the next model already since im sure i can do a lot more detailed painting, thats the one thing that is keeping my car from looking really realistic, other details im VERY please with, especially the exhaust and turbo assembly :)

hey guys i got more updates. basically the majority of the build time has been going to figuring out how to wire up the LEDS to get them shinning equally w/out burning up, as well as hiding all the wiring inside the body, but i finally finished and mounted the lights, and they work! :) the front light leds look like real HID's in person, there is still some fitting issues with the body on the chassis, but a little sanding to the hatch area should fix it right up, let me know what you guys think

well i got a bit of an update, the car is finally starting to come together into what i gues you can call the finishing stages since most of the custom work is done... lol, i hope :).
obviously being my very first model you can tell where it can use ALOT of improvement, but this was defintaly big learning grounds for the next builds to come. any ways, here is what the car is pretty much going to look like on the outside:

Very nice progress you're making. I like your idea of lighting the sound system but I think you can definitely make it a lot cleaner. I'm sure once you've sealed any light leaks and cleanly cut the black tray thing, it'll look great. Are you going to run power wires into a base out of the chassis?
ravan17
08-03-2009, 07:00 PM
yea i actually already ran the wires out of the base. im probably just going to wrap them in black and just run the power from the stand that im going to make for the car.
and the reason everything is so unclean right now soundsystem wise is b/c i wasnt really going to put it in the car.. i just watned to see what it would look like, and once i made it, it was a keeper, lol. im going to be cleanin it up right now

I'm liking the new wheels alot better, I think they will work out just fine, just remember to drill out divots for the lug nuts. looking good, I think if you use the tamiya red for your paintjob it is pretty close to ren red. they make a few colors the one in my sig on my civic is Italian red for reference.

thanks man, i like them much better then stock too, i have a set of Volk TE37's coming in the mail (sometime..... been a while since i ordered) but i did not want to waste the good rims on my very first build, im saving that one for a special widebody build on the next one :)
but anyways, the wheels came out alright, just need a smaller bit to drill out the rivits better if i ever do another set like this... but since i did them in gunmetal, you cant really see the not-so-perfect rivets i drilled

Very nice looking revised trunk. I like how the light isn't completely solid and has some fading in it. Not trying to be picky though, I still think you could do a bit of a better job on the symmetry of it. The left curve is a nice "C" but the right doesn't curve as much. Minor detail but especially since it's lit, I think it stands out more. Subwoofers are looking good. Not really liking what you've done with the air filter as it looks way too big but if that's how some come in real life, fair enough. Looking forward to seeing your future widebody project. Keep going.

thanks guys, im rethinking the airfilter idea as well... the filter itself didnt come out looking like i wanted it.. i just liked the intake pipe, lol. im going to pull that off and just leave the turbo showing. maybe put some mesh around the inlet or something...
as far as the symetry, it looks like that b/c the LED shifter inside and the part on the right side that isnt being lit is the actual LED blocking the light.... i somewhat fixed the problem after the pic was taken by covering the underside of the left portion to better match the right.. but i do know i can do a MUCH better job fitment wise if i take more time contructing a pattern that i can use to make a mirror image or somethign.
i cant wait to get the SARD supra in to start working on that. im actually waiting on 3 supras, 2 taimya street supras and 1 sard one. the sard will donate the body for a street converted widebody, and i will use the race chasis from the sard to make a drag car, i just got my slicks and skinnies in, they look GREAT! i'll take some pics after i get back from the beach

update finally, i had a chance to paint the body today as i was painting my other supra in the process, again, this body was only prepped with a bit of sanding, no primer underneath or anything like that, and painted in about an hour, so the results im sure could be much better, but as it stands now look DAMN good in the sun. i just rushed a bit and there are parts where i put too thick of a coat on the body lines, but this is definatly a learning experience for the next model which will be fully prepped and painted in stages
