this is a typical move by GM.....you/they call it what ever ,, it is still a pontiac G8...

It's much more than just a G8 though. Yeah it's a typical move in that GM is using a platform, in this case the Zeta platform to base the vehicles off of similar to how the 2000+ Impala is built off the same platform as the Monte Carlo, and in previous years the B body cars were similar and the G body and so on.This saves money and time and each division that gets a model based off the platform can tweak it to their own needs/marketed group. I would venture a guess to say that if the new Caprice is successful, we could see a Buick version aimed at those who remember what a Right Wheel Drive car once was.

with the advancements in technology today installed into the 1996 caprice , the police and taxi fleets would buy these vehicles..
the caprice frame was a big factor in the police work..
also the ability to carry a large amount of equiptment , and still handle and move fast enough to satisfy this usage.
design would also have alternate fuel options as well ...like compressed natual gas ...
In my opinon this 1996 date is when GM started its road to destruction...get a vehicle built correctly then dump it ..
