Chassis members in the cabin

Does anyone here know how far apart the chassis memebers are that the driver seat gets sandwhiched between? Also how tall are they, it apears from pictures that it would be dificult to get in and out...although Jay Leno showed the process in one of this episodes of Jays Garage...and he made it look pretty simple. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I am asking because of my Office chair idea....i figure if i am going to make it might as well make it close to the original....does anyone on here have anything....please? Thanks in advance.

If I had an F1 in the garage I would certainly go and measure it for you. :)

I could guess and say that the from the floor the chassis spars are about 14" tall and perhaps as far apart as 24-25". They seem to be about 5" in width across the top of each one from what I can remember, but it has been a few years since I had my seat in one.

I certainly didn't think the F1 was difficult to get in and out of. I'm fairly slim though, so for someone of decent size it might become an issue. McLaren can fit a removable steering wheel to the car to ease entry and exit. Gives an extra measure of security too if you want to carry around a steering wheel. :grinno:

Ok as far as my notes say the dims are as follows:-
440mm between the spars.
Spars are 158mm possibly 160mm difficult to measurer with the radii on the edges.
225mm high.

i have to say the seats aren't that wide, (or at least the passenger seats aren't - i can't speak for the driver's central one)

No, they didn't offer a wider seat. They would have had to move the chassis spars apart for that. Fat people just had to squeeze in!

but didn't they make a seat with some of the bolsters cut out? I am pretty sure they did...although they still won't make the butt cushion any wider obviously that can be no wider....

yes, they had a seat option that had a little more width.

Maybe Mr Selldorff can confirm the measurements as it is some 5 years since I made my scribbled notes?

I'm fairly slim though, so for someone of decent size it might become an issue. >8^)

When I sat in #013 it felt 'snug'. Perhaps I am in the range of your 'decent' size :lol:
