2008 Mazda3 Sport power steering trouble

my son was taking his road test and was in the middle of parking when the power steering failed and the idiot light came on the dash-board. the car still was running, but without power steering. i opened the user manual and the book says to turn of engine and try restarting engine to 'reset' the power steering. if it does not reset to seek service.....well it took about an hour of turning engine off and restarting before the power steering would come to life and work again. car has about 13,000 miles, anyone ever had this happen to them before?

At 13000 take it to the dealer. It has an electric power steering pump which works like a belt driven one except it uses an electric motor. I have an 06 with 52000 and not one problem with the power steering.

Hello my name is Esteban Torres I am a MAzda Senior technician. What was the temperature the day the Power steering went out? If it was hot outside (over 72 degrees F ) chances are your light was set off due to the PS unit overheating and shutting the motor off. The code the light will set is going to be C1099 Mazda has a Repair out for this issue and your dealer is supposed to replace both PS hose's and upper half of the PS motor. As well as flush out all old fluid.
