Problem with pass side aircondition 98 Grand prix

Hi I am having trouble with the passenger side air vents blowing hot air even when the temp is set on 60. I had this trouble once with the driver side & I replaced the drivers side air actuator & that fixed it. With the passenger side I opened up the actuator & saw that the main plastic gear was cracked 7 was spinning on the main shaft Actually this happen on the drivers side too but I didn't see that until I had already replaced it with another one. any way I glued the gear back together & put it back in. I then unplugged the car for 20-30min & let the computer reset. When I turned back on my car I saw the indicator on the actuator open up then come back to the position which meens that my glue job was working but whenever I turn the temp up or down it does'nt move an I still have hot air coming out. Any ideas what else could be the problem? Would a vacuum problem cause this for only one side (drivers side is working great)? Also one other problem is the outside air temp say's it is 59 degrees in kansas today (yeah right) try 95. I don't think that this would be the problem because shouldn't it affect both sides. Sorry for writing a book I thought that I would give as much info as possible to narrow it down.
Thanks Justin

Hmm, the outside temp error should affect both sides. However, I'm not sure what the control uses to recognize actuator position, but if it's something on that gear (a pin/hole/etc...) that lines up internally, that may have broken off, got misaligned when you glued the gear back together. Also, since the actuator was stripped, it may have rotated out of position, and you glued the gear back together with it out of phase. The drivers side and passenger side actuators are the same part number, so as a test you could try swapping them (I know, not an easy task but free) to see if the problems move with the actuator.

Thanks for the reply. The actuator does have a sensor inside that is ran off of gears. I was hoping that when I reset the computer that it would have recognized where it was & reset it. When you reset the computer it does move the acuator all the way open & then shut. I don't think I want to mess with the one on the Drivers side it is a royal pain in the but to replace the pass side is easy.

HI again I just wanted to let everyone know That It is fixed it was the actuator I ended up glueing the broken gear the tricky part was realigning or calibrating it back right. I just plug it end & turn the dial back & forth see if I had any movement after a couple of trys I got close & then fined tuned it from there about 5 or 6 tries. anyway saved me $154.00 from oreilly's. Now if my glue holds up I'm good to go. Thanks richtazz for your help

No problem Jud, thanks for the feedback and we're glad you got her fixed with no $$ output. We'll all cross our fingers for you that the glue holds.
