Now the Air Conditioning

I have a 2000 Venture that has had many problems, lower intake manifold gasket(new engine at 48000miles), Tranny had to be rebuilt, rear wiper motor(replaced), Master window switch and passenger window switch(replaced), Front Wipers not docking(replaced just about everything), Auto sliding door(disconnected the cable, too many problems),Windsheild rubber flying all over the place, Blower switch only works on setting 5(I'll get to it sooner or later) and now my ac does not work(front or back). I put a cheap(walmart) pressure gauge on the low pressure nozzle and it read 90lbs!!! What's going on now? I know this is high, I would like to know what the pressure is suppose to be with this money pit of a car and if (I never worked on AC before) the vehicle should be running with the ac blasting? ANY help is very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time...

will the a/c clutch engage? you put the gauge on the a/c port [low pressure side]down by the cooling fans ? as the high side is under the coolant resevior. i think mine is 80 pounds as i put some 134a in a couple years ago when i replaced the shaft seal

Clutch is engaging. I had the gauge on the lowside in front of the radiator and I was told the pressure(from a mechanic) should be 35 to 45 .. And that 90 is excessive with something else going on, but what? What would cause the pressure to be so high? Thanks

If the compressor is not working the overall system pressur ewill be high...maybe 90#.

Measure the low side pressure with the compressor off. When you turn on the AC the pressure should drop.

has the a/c system been worked to allow air in the system? if so the air in the system is causing the high reading. if the a/c clutch is engaging and the pulley is driving the compressor then the compressor should be pumping. you have warm air coming from the vents which means the system is low on 134a. to get the 134a in the system you will either have to get the system vacumned or vent a little air out of the high side port between the cruise control and coolant resivoir .when you vent out the high side the pressure will drop and the air will come out before the 134a.when the air gets cold stop venting and put some more 134a in two cans will get the a/c cold front and rear.:lol2:
