i think that's the right size.
bottom line w/ speakers-cheap-no good, good-no cheap. basically the more you spend the better quality you'll get. of course their are exceptions but find a brand that you can afford and then find the best price for their speakers.
i recommend polk (momos if you got the $), bostons, infinitys, mb quartz, and eclipse. the last 2 are going to be the most expensive, but they will give you the best sound. mb and eclipses are over-priced as are all car audio, but they seem to be the best. best bang for your buck (imo) are polks.
your best bet it to go to different places (circuit city, soundtrack, best buy, local car audio store,etc...) and compare the sound quailty to find out what you like. make sure to listen to music you usually listen to and at volumes you usually listen to. if you don't have a sub, don't listen to speakers with a sub on in the shop-things like this will help you to make a good decision.

I was always under the impression that the speaker sizes were 6 1/2 for front AND back..

I think 6 1/2 all around is just for the P11, the p10 does have 4/6 in the front though

Okay, Got a 1993 G. Just bought Infinity 652i 6 1/2" rear speakers, but Crutchfield (online) says they aren't compatible with the P10... I looked at other 6.5" speakers with even larger depths that are said to be compatible... What do I do? The specs on my 652i's are: 6.25" front width, 2 and 1/16" deep and 5". Will they fit with any sort of "assistance" aka physical help???

Oh, and the Crutchfield recommendations for the P10 are:
4.5" round or 4x6 plate for the front
6.25 or 6.5" round for the rear

OK, here's the deal. The rear speakers on the P10 are actually 6.75". Otherwise known as an oversized 6.5". This is an awkward size however, and most stores won't carry them. you'd have to get them from crutchfield. 6.5's will fit, but you will most likely have to make a plate.

Swonder: Where'd did you find that size information?

I'm still wondering if anyone here has any ideas if my new speakers will fit... I'm hoping to get these puppies installed ASAP, so speak now or forever hold your peace if you've got any information...

Please help me out :P Remember, be kind to the weaker sex... ;)

well, if you look on crutchfield, and you look for speakers, it will give you 6.5 and 6.75 sizes. but next to the sizes, there is a a one or two letter code, like "EZ", "P", and "M". the 6.75's are "EZ" which means they drop in, and you can just bolt em on. "P", which are what the 6.5's are, can fit, but you need to do some modification. here is the crutchfield link with the rear speakers, look for them letters...

whoops, that link won't work, but trust me, the rears on the p10 are 6.75's to fit 6.5's, I tihnk you may have to make plates or something

My bad, dude... Just went back to Crutchfield and they do list either 6.5" or 6.75" for the rear speakers. Still, though the speakers that I have bought are said not to fit the 1993 G even though the specs are equal to or even less than some said speakers... Here's the specs on what is said to fit my G:
What Crutchfield lists (http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-W1IqYrd7fNv/prodgroup.asp?g=400&a=1)

Here's what my speakers are:
Infinity 652i's I bought (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-W1IqYrd7fNv/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=108652I&s=0)

I'm car-stupid, so I can't figure out what's up... Someone help me so I can decide if my new speakers need to go back. Thank you so much for all your help so far!!! :flash:

well, it depends, are you installing them yourself? or are you getting them installed at a stereo shop? If you're doing it yourself I would you returned what you have, and bought some 6.75's. because they will perfectly with no extra work needed, just drop em in. with the 6.5's that you have however, if you did it yourself, it might take some custom work.

I was planning on saving some money by installing it myself. How much modification are we talking about? I mean, I can do things like drilling new holes or putting a piece of board over the existing hole to make it fit. I really like the sound of these... and I have matching speakers in mind that have equal sound for the doors.

Oh, and how exactly do the rear speakers go in? Do they drop in from the top??? I can't quite tell from the little bit of looking I've done so far. I just took the salesman's word (which doesn't seem to have been such a swift idea on my part).

to make a plate, you'll prolly have to use a pice of plastic and drill holes in that, but I dunno, I've never made a plate before. I'm pretty sure that's what you have to do.

And about installing them. after you get the rear deck off, it's pretty straight forward... it's getting the rear deck off that's gonna kill you.

I just installed some Infinity 652i's in my rear deck a few days ago, and I did not have to make any modifications to get them to fit. You can't use the metal ring that comes with them, just put the speaker into the new Infinity grill ring (the front part of the grill pushes out) and screw through both. I took off the stock grills and put the new speakers over the rear deck, compressing the deck down. However, the screws that they came with weren't long enough and I had to buy some longer ones and thread a nut on to the trunk side of them to keep it tight. It really isn't that tough, and like Swonder said, taking the rear deck off is the hardest part.

Now that I think about it, it should show you how to mount them in the intructions, under "mounting in 165mm locations" or something like that because they are made to fit in the 6.75 inch openings.

All done! I installed four speakers on a P10. I went with Polk EX 652a 6.75" for the rear, and Polk EX 346 4X6" in the front. Also, while I had everything off, I went ahead and did some dynamatting. Now, sounds good, and no rattling. I've never changed the speakers before, and the whole thing took about 2 hours. It's not as hard as everyone's makin it out to be. anyway, thought I'd share that.

good job on doing it yourself. the first time it takes a lot longer than when you get more used to doing it. i can install a deck in about a 1/2 hour now whereas when i put my first deck in it took me around 3 hrs.

congrats on the polks. do you like them? (obviously, or you wouldn't have bought them-details on +s vs. -s)

where did you dynamat? that stuff is expensive but i guess it works pretty good. i need to dynamat my trunk so it doesn't rattle.

They polks sound good, and they aren't as expensive as I thought. I just took the template that came with the speakers, and i traced it out on the dynamat, just doing that took ALOT of vibration out of the rear deck. In fact, there is no more vibration... at all. Of course, the car doesn't have a sub in it, but with just speakers, everything sounds crisp, loud, and clean.

Did you have to do any rewiring, splicing or any of that? I was gonna get new speakers front and rear and keep the stock amps, but a lot people have told me that I have to rework and rewire everything from the ground up.:(

if u buy 6.5s u dont need any plates. jus screw in new hols and then theres a little space left which is not a big deal b/c it gets covered over anyways and no one will ever know the difference.

you can do just the speakers without re-wiring everything. Yeah, some people say it sounds bad, but unless you're a sound junkie, and you listen carefully for every low mid and high, it sounds pretty good.

I successfully installed my Infinity 652i 6.5" rounds in the rear!!!

The holes in the speaker "frame" (so long as you don't use the installation rings included) line up perfectly with the former 6.75" screw holes. :licker: My ULTIMATE horror came when I realized that the actual stock speaker size was about 5.5" on a plate and my new speakers were an honest to goodness 6.5"!!!!! I got to spend an extra hour on cutting out the rear "shelf" so that the new speakers would fit through!!! :angryfire Needless to say, I wasn't a happy camper when that realization came... Oh, and I forgot to re-screw the old speaker grills back on (since the new round ones show the ugly holes from the originals), so I was so angry at that point from the 5 hours I spent disassembling, installing, etc. that I velcroed the new round grills to the "shelf"!!!!!!

Anyways, everyone's help was tremendously awesome, and I was able to do the installation with only a little help from my dad and brother. Next time (if there ever is a next time after today...:bloated: ) I'll be sure to take less time since I know what needs to be done.
