When i apply the brakes on my 2000 grand am se it makes an annoying
sqeakin noise, (not Squealing!!), it almost sounds like a spring, its comming from outside the car, and can be heard loudest from the beneath the drivers side area, anyone ever had this type of problem before? i dont think it the caliper, ive never heard one make this type of noise before.

Mine does the same thing, haven't bothered to figure out what it is, I've checked my calipers/pads etc and all are in good condition so I didn't go any farther in checking it out.

at first i thought it was the brake pedal itself, but its louder outside of the car, if its not in the caliper itself, my next guess is the brake cable itself, maybe it needs some greese, im gonna lift the car up tonight and crawl underneath and see what i can find.
the car still brakes the same / normally, its just really annoying, everytime i pull up to a light or a stop ppl look at me weird! lol

try cleaning it with brake cleaner, maybe some oil or grease ended up on your discs

If it is the same noise that I have heard from mine, it happens after you already have stopped also, so it isn't from motion of the rotor or drums, but rather from the return springs in the rear drums squeaking. This has nothing to do with the brake cable other than the fact that it is connected to the brakes also, the cable is strictly for the parking brake.

yes you are correct, even when stopped, even with the car off, if i press on the brake pedal the noise still squeks....i agree it sounds like a spring of some sort, but it cant be the rear drum brakes b/c the noise can clearly be heard near the drivers side front tire area....so its located at the brake there itself or something leading into the brake itself...it cant be comming from the rear
