Crazy Modeler Brakes

Hi :)

I am having a bit of trouble with the Crazy Modeler brake discs for the Tamiya FXX.

I have made one of the discs using the PE pieces but am at a loss with what to do with the calipers. I need to cut a shape into them to allow the disc to fit but i am not sure how. Its not like i can just use a saw or a knife as they need to cave in rather than be straight :banghead:

Any tips/suggestions gratefully recieved :)

Yeah, that's a difficult one. There is no simple, easy way to use the calipers on the kit parts without tedious, maddening surgery on each caliper. You're not missing any tricks, and Crazy Modeler did not provide an obvious solution to this problem. If you manage each caliper in 1 hour and can still use your hands afterward, you have more skills than I do....

The only easier way to do that is to use your dremel with an abrasive disc that is roughly the size of the PE brake discs.

I know that the Dremel abrasive discs are bigger but you can get wear them down to the right size easily by using them on some hardened steel piece or even better one a hard stone.

Thanks, ill have a go. If you have trouble understanding the reply it means that it didnt go too well and i am having problems typing with only a couple of fingers :lol:

Thanks, i have a crappy cheap version of a dremel somewhere that i never use so i will try and dig that out later. It was last seen a couple of years ago though so i hope i have not thrown it out.

The smallest and middle disks should be about the right size.

I had a similar problem with my Challenge Stradale, using the Acutsion Enzo photoetched discs. I traced the disc outline onto some 1mm styrene and then cut out the middles. I then carefully cut the kit brakes in half and glued each side of the caliper to the styrene, so that the cutout (disc) is where the photoetched disc would sit. and then carefullly filed away the excess, it is a tedious task and took me ages, with this method if you were carefull you could get the disc to spin. Its a hard thing to explain in text. Good luck

Great, ive added those to the cart for my next order. I did find my 'dremel style' tool and it has nothing like that so even if i dont use them on this they will be handy for the future.

I have some spare calipers so might give this a try too. I was thinking about something along these lines before i started the thread so i think i can understand what you mean. I dont suppose you covered it in the WIP did you, or if there is any tutorial anywhere?
