tail lights

(93). I'm lost as to what to do with my taillights. They havent worked properly in a long time. I've replaced any bulbs that were completely out, however it still hasnt solved my problem. Problem is that the only brake lights that still light up are one or two on the right side. There are no brake lights that work on the left. The bulb is lit up when the lights are on, however when brakes are applied, they don't get any brighter. HELP!

Do you have 12v to the socket when the brakes are applied?

Check fuse panel LS underhood for corroded contacts. Fuse may show good, however contacts have shown to be bad under the fuse. As Maxwedge mentioned check for 12 volts at socket. Ground may be bad.
I have also seen brake light issues with these cars which end up being a problem with the T/S combination switch.

thanks todd and thanks max. Haven't checked the volts yet...I assume you mean at the underhood socket for the fuse? Todd, what is the T/S combo switch?

Under the hood is the fuse panel, drivers side. Check to make sure you're getting power through the fuse and through the terninals. You may have to un bolt the fuse block to make sure power is going through.

The socket's in question, would be the bulb sockets in the tail lights. Check and see if you have 12 volts there. If so, you may have a ground issue.

The T/S combination switch is the turn signal/4 way flasher switch under the steering wheel. This would be the last thing to test, however I have seen where the 4 way button has been lodged causing these symptoms. Play with the switch alittle to see if your problems are caused by it.

Check your owners manual for fuse locations as there may be more than one for each circuit.

Just out of curiousity, was there ever a hitch and wiring harness connected to the car that may have contributed to bad connections at the rear? Good place to look for problems if so.
