Amp suggestions for JVC receiver & Bazooka sub combo

Hi there everyone, this is my first post of what i hope is many (hopefully in the future ill be dispensing advice as well as receiving it.)

I currently have a 1994 bronco with a setup of a JVC KD-HDR50 CD Receiver and Bazooka BT8024DVC 8" Sub (uninstalled). The receiver has been installed already (i actually think i mixed the constant 12v wire because it cant keep the time or settings) with stock speakers. The speakers sound good enough but have absolutely no bass. The mids and highs are acceptable but the utter lack of bass just ruins the songs so i set out to get a small sub that wont interfere with the trunk space and i can neatly tuck away between the back seat and the spare. I chose the bazooka out of a combination of it being $110 and some good reviews from owners.

Now, I have been looking for about a week for an amp to buy and install in the next couple of days before i get going on a long road trip (11 hours+ total on the road) and would love to listen to some music instead of radio news.

Can anyone please suggest a reasonably priced amp that would be work reasonably well with the current receiver and sub. I would hate to spend that much more than $100-$150. I have been looking at reviews and such but i thought i would get some real first hand advice from people who have already installed or purchased similar setups.

Thanks in advance!

here is a decent amp within that price range.

if youre looking for a class d amp, you may need to spend a little more for that kind of 4 ohm power.

now this is just a suggestion, get your money back on that bazooka. you can get a better sub for that price.

hey thanks for the response and suggestions!

to be honest i had to look up class d amp, im really new to this and i even considered buying a powered sub to avoid this amp purchasing but i thought if they were seperate they might sound better. i think i will go for a class d amp. my sub is only 400 watt, so i figure a low powered class d amp will be, what? $250? I noticed they can go to $1000+ but, again, that would def be overkill. looking for a somewhat reasonable option.

Im sure your sub suggestions are better than the pre-made bazooka but i dont think i can create an enclosure thats small enough to fit where i plan on putting the bazooka. my current sub is by nature round so it fits right in the space. that second suggestion of yours sounds really good, im actually going to save that in case i ever need to build a sub for my apt sound system. great find. thanks!

really no need for a class d for that kind of power. people usually get class d's cause you can 1000 watts cheaper a 1 ohm than at 4 ohms and is more efficient so its less taxing on your electrical. 400 watts from an a/b amp wont tax your electrical very bad. some even say that a/b will sound better than a class d. (i cant hear a diff dealing with the sub stage).

here is another amp that would fit in your application.

i had a txa-750 and i loved it. come with a 2 year warranty also. also ships from nj so it should end up at your door in no time at all.

I actually just came back from best buy, they had this sub - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500MRPM500/Alpine-MRP-M500.html at $209 but i can get it for $159. what do you think? also, the wiring kit seems to be around $70 everywhere, any place i can get the wires for less?

ive pretty much given up on having this installed for my road trip. my receiver has hd radio, hopefully i can pick up some ballgames along the way.

when i come back ill look further into the subs you recommended and see if i can fit them in between the spare and backseat.

thanks again!

EDIT- apparently the coupon i had used a few days ago is no longer valid - 3A825 - so its $179, not $159.

not bad, but with out knowing what that bazooka is tuned to(the port), and that amp having a fixed subsonic at 15 hz, you risk unloading your woofer(playing notes below tuning, your port is useless and the woofer just flaps in breeze).

i used welding cable for my install. but you have to get ring terminals and fuses on your own, which isnt hard.

if you havent settled on a sub yet, i'd wait on getting an amp. imo, its easier to settle on a sub and get an amp to match instead of getting an amp and possible eliminating a lot of subs before you look at them. again, just my opinion.
