transmission has no reverse

99 ranger 4.0 4x4 auto trans has no reverse. I was told it made a clank sound now there is no reverse. I have no idea how this may have happened,a family member was using it and claims he didn't do anything.
Any ideas on what to expect for the repair?:uhoh:

I'm thinking rebuilt tranny

Had the transmission rebuilt.The pal for the reverse broken. I was told this is a common fault. Most likely by putting the truck in reverse while still moving.Got no help from the person that was using the truck. A $1000 lesson learned ,don't lend out the trusk!:nono:

yah time for new tranny or rebuilt.
