S27DC400 Ford Focus WRC Red Bull 2000 Decal (Studio 27 Original Decal)
Quick question for you rally heads?
Will these decals also fit the ford focus wrc 02?
I just ordered them..and I allready had the focus
for $12 at my lhs the 02 version.Or do I just need to get 2000 version
Is there a difference between kits?

Are you talking about the Tamiya foci? I don't think they made any revisions between the kits except for the early model with the different rear spoiler (Kit #24217) so you should be okay if you're using those as a base.

The focus changed in the middle of 2002 (new hood) so if I'm not forgetting something that should be OK to put a 2000 decal over a blue RS 2002 model (which is btw only correct for the Corsica livery and not the Germany livery it also provides).
The only thing to verify is the rear bumper because i'm not 100% sure that rear fog light and/or back-up light are exactly at the same place in it.

Actually Phil:
The Performance Blue RS WRC kit is perfect OOB for a 2001 car which Duval & Markko drove in Corsica, however by Germany, both were in the 2002 car which Colin & Carlos more or less started the season with. The 02 homologated car also had a different shaped, larger roof vent, aside from the bonnet vent arrangements. I don't think the rear bumper changed much from year to year.
Compared to the 2000 car, the 02 car also has different brake cooling ducts. The 00 car was modified from the 99 car by changing the brake duct on either side of the front spoiler to 2 holes. This was later changed again on the 01 car to being completely blanked over, along with the front indicator lenses. IIRC, this same front spoiler arrangement continued with the 02 car - will need to check my refs with the relevant kits. In any case, if you google Focus WRC & the year, you should come up with the pics you need to differentiate the differences

So if I understand well what you mean, the 2002 blue RS version is not different from the 2001 evolution (entered in Cyprus or Acropolis, I can't remember it precisely) but is different from the 2000 car ?
So I'm wrong saying that the 2002 blue RS can be used for a 2000 version (because of the opened two holes in 2000 filled with 2001 evolution and then 2002...?!?)
So guiwee can't use the 2002 car to represent the 2000 one then...
Another thing I'm wondering about is the larger roof vent differently shaped... (from 2000/01 to 2002?) Are you sure of that ?? :eek7:
I've been looking at my pics from the service park for a few minutes now and I can't see any difference...
Do you have something to illustrate that point ?
Another point you didn't mention is the lights... They also changed with the 2002 evolution (I'm even wondering if it wasn't already with 2001 evolution)
conclusion (if I'm right now):
the 2002 blue RS is a 2001 evolution and then different from the 2000 (and 2001 before evolution) car and can't be used with a 2000 decal.

The way Tamiya have kitted the car for that boxing, you could use it for the 2000 car. The only mod required would be to drill the brake cooling holes either side of the front spoiler, just in front of the wheels.
As you said Phil, oob it can't be used as a proper 02 homologated car as used by Colin & Carlos, as the bonnet vent layout had changed quite drmatically, but it can be used as an 01 car as is. As for the roof vent: it's pretty much the same shape as the earlier one, just bigger - width & length not height. If you can get a close-up look at the Renaissance t/kit of this mod, you'll see what I mean

I'm afraid not.
While my initial reaction when I read that the Red Bull decals are for 2000 was that that must be for an ex-works 1999 Focus WRC, looking at the decal placement chart (https://www.hlj.com/product/S27DC400) it's clear that it's not the 1999 car (the most obvious tell-tale feature is the rear wing) but indeed the 2000 one. The RS Blue kit is in fact a 2001 version of the Focus WRC and with some modifications described by other guys above it can be reasonably easily converted to the 2000 version.

Are you ok with modding your current kit's front bumper for the brake vents, and front lip?
If you're not worried about absolute accuracy then your current kit is a suitable base, if you want it really accurate you'd need to combine both kits (if you wanted to stick with Tamiya) as the early model does not have the correct rear spoiler since it is a '99 model.
The important thing to remember is Tamiya didn't make any changes even though Ford did between 2001 and 2002.:banghead:

Yep jla has pretty much got it. M-Sport dictated some pretty major changes to the 99 car, not least of which was:
changing the front intake arrangement on the spoiler; the different cooling holes on the sides of the front spoiler as mentioned earlier & the rear wing.
Tamiya never kept up with this & jumped straight from the 99 to the 01 homologation, because presunably all they had to do was just provide a blanking plate to eliminate it + a new wing.
If you want to use your RS WRC 02 kit, that'll be fine. Just bear in mind those cooling ducts I wrote about & remember to paint in the indicator lenses with orange on the front spoiler too. Ford had to include this aperture as part of the homologation as it exists on the road car but clearly didn't actually need the indicator. They changed this on the 01 car.

Well they don't actually give you the option of leaving it off. Tamiya never kitted the 00 car. So to do the the 01 car they took the mould for the 99 front spoiler (which just has 1 large vent for the brake duct) & gave us an addendum piece to glue over the hole & close it up.
Given the Red Bull team in the 00 Deutschland Rally is not the factory team nor even an M-Sport supported team (i.e. they bought their car as a customer car), it's likely, without seeing event pics, they wouldn't have been given the opportunity by M-Sport to be driving the current spec car, therefore you could use enough artistic license to leave the brake duct blanking plate off (thus making the front spoiler a hybrid 99/00 part) & use the duckbill rear spoiler as well.

By knowing now what we learn or confirm through this thread, I can now surely say that Baumschlager's 2001 Deutschland rallye car strictly is a 2000 evolution (so I suppose it's the case for his whole season) cos' it has the twin holes in bumper sides.
(seen and confirmed by seeing several videos)
I have some paper pictures I would have to scan if you really want them...
If you want to buy some redbull decals take a look at Carpena's releases, I think they made some.

So it's indeed a 2000-spec Focus. Of course one more option is to go for the Hasegawa/Revell kit of the Focus. It's not as good a kit as the Tamiya one (mostly when it comes to the interior/chassis) but it does have the correct front bumper configuration for a 2000 Focus.
