Displaying your models

I was just wondering, how does everyone here display their model collections? The reason i'm asking this is because I'm thinking of picking up a display case in the future and would like to know how everyone else shows off their models. Do you put it in a display case? maybe on a wooden platform? or perhaps you keep them in one of those single plastic cases. Pics welcomed;)

perhaps you keep them in one of those single plastic cases. Works for me until I can get a decent display case for the living room; they work wonders for dust control!:)

 I haven't got that many models, but I surely don't want them to collect dust, so I keep em in a little glass closet picked up at IKEA (not advertising);) It was cheap, and does what it's supposed to do; keep the dust of my Precious... (gollem voice :alien2: )

Used to keep them in a shelving unit made out of wood with wooden sides, shelves and back, with a glass front. Put down mirrors on the shelves to see undercarriages. A row of indoor christmas lights in the top back corner all the way across the shelf provided awesome lighting effects.
I plan to alter an ikea STEN shelving system for this again. These are the shelving units that you build up on your own, usually used in garages and storage rooms, etc. I've got them in my bedroom. Made a mess out of the piles looking for nice pieces. Anyway, the plan goes like this... Glass front and sides, mirror floor and back plate, wooden ceiling, christmas lights in the same spot. Should make an interesting project on its own.

Here's a mock-up. tan is wood, silver is mirror, white is clear, little red dots are where the lights go, inside the cabinet (obviously). Great thing about this is you can stack them up on top of eachother and expand your shelves as your collection expands. Should be quite cheap to put together.

I had it custom made at a cost of 50 UK Pounds a few years ago. it was going to be put on the wall, it it arrived and seemed a bit big for that.

I second bigfrits "Ikea" suggestion. I believe they sell for around $100 and you can also add a light to the inside for an extra $10-$15. It can hold quite a few models and will also look nice in the living room :D. Check out their website if you don't have a local Ikea you can go to.
