Hi Guys,
Well here goes for my first posting on a build http://forum.spc.org.uk/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif
I have built a couple of bikes previously but have been figure painting for a mag for a while but now want to get back to my bikes. So first up is a build of a Tamiya Kawasaki ZX-12R & it is intended to be a clean build with limited detailing. I got the kit from a fellow club member & was lucky to get some zero candy lime green paint from a member of the scale plastic car forum, also got a dexter Kawasaki Ninja resin base. http://forum.spc.org.uk/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

So I started off by getting rid of the plated chrome finish with household bleach (Domestos gel type) & before I could get the camera focused, the chrome was gone (5 minutes max!)plus totally de-greased.

second up is a bit of detailing on the chain using a rotary tool with a square cutter.
first, prime the black plastic chain with white, mark off each segment with a pencil, cut out with slow speed, each area of the link, finally, wash over with a liquid poly (MEK) to blend & melt the plastic waste.

phew! http://forum.spc.org.uk/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif That's the first bit over, now to try & get to you guys standards http://forum.spc.org.uk/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
Let me know what you think so far guys & hopefully more soon.

Hi Roca,
Thanks for your interest & just to let you know it's still being prepped, such as drilling the discs, assembly of the bodywork & engine. I will post some pis when I feel I am up to you guys standards on the build.:cwm27:
Just recieved a half built Tamiya Bimota, man, what a weird contraption!:grinno: does anyone have any info on this machine or where I can find some?
Thanks
Mark

Edit* If you want info of that bike you may find books at amazon or websites like that.

Hi Guys
A bit fraught with work at the moment, but here's some progress.
A night in front of the telly saw the drilling & some prep work.

The chain work is very interesting, I am not fond of all the tedious work of the photo etch chain kits so I may want to try something like you did.

Excellent

Here's a bit more info for you on the chain detailing!
First painting the chain silver!

Adding a black wash with acylic matt black paint!

letting it dry out,

Finally, dry brush the chain with chrome silver!

Woow

This is the best non-photoetched chain I've ever seen. Absolutely brilliant! I should take note of this.

Thank's!

Roca.

Another comment about model bike chains. From my experience making many model aircraft, I was wondering about using black washes and highlighting with metallic colors to give a bit more depth look to it. It would bring out the link and rivet detail.

sweet!

that chain...I think I couldn't do that precision drilling

I wil be following this close too.

By the way...one question, is the gas tank on that a one piece part? I say that because I am building a CBR Super BlackBird and the gas tank seam is giving me a toothache...If it is a two piece how did you get rid of the seam?

Thanks in advance.

Great work keep us updated please!
