blinking drive light

i have a 98 honda civic dx my car wont drive unless i put in low gear then back into drive. the letter D on the dash blinks steady can someone please tell me if there is a computer for the trans or if this is the trans telling me goodbye, any help would be sincerely appreciated.

What you are describing clearly sounds like your transmission is in need of repair. I would first check the condition of the fluid, and go from there. I don't specialize in transmission repair so see if you can consult with a shop that is knowledgeable with transmissions.

update the problem with the blinking light was that the plug to the selenoid or sensor on the tranny was not making contact. goes to show u have to check even the simplest of things. hopefully this will help someone in the future.

a flashing d5 light is not a good thing. you need to take it to a dealer equipped with the proper honda scantool to find out the problem. unfortunately if it is internal damage you will have to replace the whole trans. you may get lucky and it just be a solenoid. if your car slips at all your trans is most likely done for, though. good luck.
