2001 Tahoe - Rough running

I took my battery out last night to remove the windshield washer tank to replace a washer pump. I put everything back just fine. My wife starts up the Tahoe this morning and while idling it is "surging" like it wants to cut off.

She went ahead anyway, and so far, so good but she said it is still running rough.

I can't figure out what is wrong. No check engine light is on and all I removed was the battery.

Any ideas?

The positive and/or the negative cable connections didn't spark against any metal part or each other when you removed/replaced the battery?

I just checked my '02 and the only thing I could see was the washer hoses. Are you sure you didn't unintentionally pull a vacuum line loose?

My Haynes manual offers these possibilities too:

Fault in fuel or ignition systems
Plugged PCV valve or hose
Air filter clogged
Fuel pump not delivering sufficient fuel to the injectors
Leaking head gasket
Camshaft lobes worn

Let us know how you make out, ok?

I done my 01 Hoe washer pump at least 3-4 times, never had any problem as you describe, no vacuum lines in the area of the battery. It's probaly a coincindence, try cleaning the butterfly valve in the throttle bottle. Take off the air housing. I usually spray carb cleaner on a rag or tooth brush and clean the valve edges as best as possible. Let us know what happens.

Thanks everyone. When my wife got it home, it was running ok again. I was careful not to spark any of the battery cables. I did notice that when I was hooking the negative back up that it sparked a lot while it was making contact as I screwed it in.

I will do the throttle cleaning that was mentioned. It has 103k and I just got it a couple of months ago so I don't know how well it was maintained.

I will also get the codes read to see if anything pops up.

Thanks for the replies!
