AC Compressor 97 Lesabre: Stuck Clutch Assembly

I pulled the compressor in order to replace the shaft seal. I have the special tools to work on it (on loan from O'Reilly) but the clutch puller tool pulled out of the threaded inset and essentially stripped it out. The nut and the threaded inset were both very corroded and rusted. Does anyone know of any other ways or tricks to get the clutch off? I put fairly good pressure on it with the puller, but it never budged. All at once, the tool pulled out of the threads.

If it is stuck permanently, I may go salvaged or a rebuilt from on-line. Thanks.

You basically answered your own question.

The problem with "loaner tools"; is most of them are abused by the previous users. Think about it, if it is not your tool, why treat them with TLC. I agree with max; time for a new compressor! Don't waste your money on a JY or rebuilt unit, they usually leak @ the front seal!

What kind of rebuilt unit are you talking about? I got one from Advance Auto for around $200 last April and it seems to be working fine. No sign of leakage as far as I know.
Well this summer will let me know if I got a good deal. 95+ degrees and its not even July yet. :newburn:

I'll get something ordered this evening. There seems to be a lot of options out there. There is one off brand for $165. Not sure if it would be any good though. I'll probably try to match up to the original.

Just finished the installation. It is running good and cold again with no leaks (so it seems). It is no longer leaking off the compressor shaft.
