09 Pilot Burning Oil?

I have a 2009 Honda Pilot. It has 14775K miles on it. We have been using the oil indicator light to dictate when to change the oil. We have only replaced it once. We used Mobile Synthetic 5W-20. NO indicator has ever came on stating oil is low. My husband is in a panic, because when he checks the oil on the dipstick, it shows that it is burning oil. He keeps adding oil to it, because he says it should stay full. We have logged its consumption and it doesn't meet honda's oil consumption guidelines at this time("1,000 or more miles per qt. of oil to be acceptable consumption figure withing the new car limited warranty"), so it is considered normal. It is using roughly 1/2 of pint every 2000miles and at the end of the first oil change,8,600miles, it was a quart low. Is this normal. My thought is with the old cars we changed the oil every 3K miles and never got to see this usage. Now we drive 9K miles or more and can see possible normal usage of oil. What do you think? Here is what we logged with the current oil change:
3-14--8619--1 quart low--changed it...
3-29--9043--1/16 below top of mark
4-13--10298--1/8 below top of mark
5-11--12044 1/8 below top of mark
Then he added oil. It is still full from adding it and only at 40% usage. We are going to go ahead and change it Sat. and start over monitoring it. Please help!

It looks normal to me. Some engines use a lot of oil, some do not.
Never go by "Low oil" light. It usually comes on when you already down to two quarts - too low if you ask me.
My Accord burns about a quart between oil changes, Toyota burns none, my son's Pilot burns about the same as my Accord does.
Just make it a habit to check oil level every other time you get gas.
