New filter with Seafoam
GTP Version 2.0

I did a pan drop in my 1997 GTP at 150,000miles and installed a new filter and Thrasher shift kit. When I punch it from a dead stop the car will slip in the higher rpm's near redline, then if i let off the gas the car will launch when it catches the gears. The fluid was black when I changed it with a hint of red. I ran Seafoam transtune before the drop but I am wondering if another drain is needed (I installed a drain plug before replacing the pan). I was wondering if I run Seafoam Trantune again if I need to replace the filter again or if I can just drain the fluid.

Did you replace the filter seal? Was it installed correctly? It almost sounds like you are getting air (fluid starvation) issues.

To my knowledge everything was replaced properly. I know the seal was in there (it was pretty difficult to get back in). I went ahead and drop the fluid. The car maybe has 3,000 miles on it since I drop the pan and changed the filter and fluid. I have to say that the fluid was pretty bad. In fact it was just as bad as the first time I drained the fluid. When I refilled it a few hours ago I checked the level after letting the car idle for ten minutes and saw that I had about a quart more than what I needed. I drained some with my convenient drain plug and checked that fluid. It wasn't as bad but pretty damn near it. I don't know if my tranny is just falling apart or if that seafoam I used during the first pan drop cleared out a lot of shavings and just needs to be constantly filled and drained until acceptable.
Just as an observation I notice that when I disengage my performance shift the brake pedal becomes firmer and my steering is tighter. Anyone know why?

strange!
Was it slipping before the first initial pan drop?

It was slipping in reverse, but I hadn't fully punched the throttle to notice the slipping in first.

That doesn't sound good..... (slipping in 1st and reverse)
Is it still slipping in reverse?

When I accelerate in reverse it will slip. If I take it easy then no.

I'm not sure if this would help or not, but review this thread.

It might be worth a shot before a rebuild.

What all is involved in replacing the pcs? Does the tranny have to be removed from the vehicle? How much should it cost?

To answer your question, the sidepan of the trans would have to be removed. To remove that you would need to remove the axel which would involve undoing the ball joint....
However, IMO, your problem doesnt sound like it is a problem with the PCS system. It sounds more like an issue with a slipping input clutch.
Does is slip in manual 1st gear?

I haven't floored it in first...I have my reservations of doing it. What I do notice is that with normal acceleration the 2-3 shift is harder than normal and the car jerks forward. I would like to get a new tranny as my GTP has 150,000+miles. Anybody know of a good place to find one, and how much the install should cost?
