Alright, so here's the debate.
95civicman (or is it civicboy) is getting his ZC installed in his 89 CRX as I type this. I have a D16y8 in my 91 Si. We are out for some friendly competition to so "who's da biotch now!" I would like to know peoples opinions on who da biotch is gonna be. Assuming we both drive the same and such variables are out. I know the CRX is lighter and the ZC has more torque so I may be the underdog here. Let's here this one out and hopefully we will have some results soon. Deuce!

what model crx? If it's an hf than he for sure will win...or he can't drive. If it's an Si than it should be fairly close, buy i give him the edge...due to the slight torque and hp advantage...and the lighter chassis. :cool:

I believe his car is an Si, with 99-2000Si wheels. So, it will have an Si tranny. It'll be fun. This is just for fun's sake. I understand that I may get beat, it won't be the first time.

did that....travis' zc hatch vs. my y8 hatch. were already going on the highway side by side (see pic in his sig and you can see my si in the reflection ;) ) dropped it in 3rd and went from there. i wasn't driving :( jer was. however, i won't complaine i got to see the look of confusion on his face as the Si pulled away. i will say this....if the road would have kept going he would have caught up if not possibly passed.
it was if anything, fun between friends and will for sure happen again (time and time again).....
just have to make sure his bling bling 17's aren't on......no excuses :flipa:

Um witrh this setup he will own your ass! ZC, ZC ecu, ZC trany and some 15's... Basicaly 2000SI rims he has... So I hate to tell you, but if he is running the ZC ecu... Your still fucked! The ZC with the ZC ecu makes 137, not 130. It also makes 109 ft lbs tq with the ZC ecu. So even if he is running the 90-91 SI trany, you will still get owned. If he was running the ZC tranny I wouldnt even say anything other than "HAHAHAHAHA".... I have seen a zc with I/H/E and ZC trany/ecu light them up in first, second, and all the way thrue third and chirp fourth. Just to give you an idea ;)

Also, what mods do each of you have? I asume he at least has a header + 5-10 hp since the zc wont hook up to the Si's exaust since its a dual exaust system ;)

Secondly, if he lights them up in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, (even 6th if he has dual exhaust right?) then he isn't going anywhere!!! If you read, I said I believe he is running the Si tranny, that would not be a ZC tranny, but Si. I didn't mention before but I am about 95% sure he is running Si ECU. AND...if the Si header won't bolt up correctly to the ZC, WHICH IT WON'T, then that is a flow RESTRICTION and that will hurt power, not improve upon it. OWNED!!!!

I have to go with the zc. But it really depends on what you both have done. you say it doesn't matter so I am going with the zc if you both have the same mods. It not only has more tq, but it is dohc. This is just my opinion and I know I might be wrong but I am going witht he zc. I love that engine. Also our of curiousity what does each car have done to them?

Seondly if you look at a JDM SI it has a dual exaust setup Idiots..
Thirdly of all, the ZC makes more HP and TQ... Real fucking idiots.
Fourthly I have actualy worked on engines and built them for performance... Anyone in here ever built an engine that makes 900 ft lbs of tq? I have...

I'd just like to add that the ZC horsepower ratings are not accurate. There are many different numbers floating around. I've seen engine buliders quote the ZC @ 125hp all the way up to 135hp.

No, it goes from a 4-2-2 header that people call a 4-2-1 because we dont get the down pipes with the motors. From there it goes to two mufflers. They dont use cats in japan... I think there are resonators on it, I will have to look into it. Got a ex girl frend that lives in japan ;) We are still cool so I call her every once in a while... She used to own a 92 civic with a ZC... Dumbass :rolleyes:

Figured since my jdm b16a came w/ a stock 4-2-1 header which attaches to a cat on the ef8/9 and da6/8...it would be the same on the jdm si civics and cr-xs. :confused:

No, they use resonators... I just got off the phone with yoshiko. She said they dont need cats because they use 98 octane fuel and make people swap motors every 40,000 miles, thus emisions are low and no nead for a cat (At least not on her civic). Her civic had a moded exaust thoe... It is a 4-2-1 :bloated: But they do have a dual exaust (As in dual muflers) and if I am not mistake thats what most people are talking about when they say "Dual Exaust"

Well I asume he didnt have the turbo on... Therfore a motor built with less compresion than stock will equal less hp than stock... Not to mention >AGAIN I asume< he had put in aftermarket rods... Which are heavier... So it does not surprize me one bit. Those crickets, I OWN them ;)

Either way, if the drivers dont know how to race then its a matter of who has more skill. Its like stock car racing ... When everything is the same, its all on the driver. We dont have full specs on each car and can only get guesses and what someone remembers. Any knowledge of having ownzoring ANYONE in any of the two conditions doesnt really apply cause again the driver is one of the biggest variables in racing. Now this is a challenge since each is kinda diffrent and you cant really put the same of anything on each. So unless someone is willing to do this test ... lets all just forget about it and be happy ...

I dont even want to touch the issue of ZC vs what ever cause im with Seth. Melt i think that our numbers are 105, and maybe the higher number if we go MPFI.
Either way, if the drivers dont know how to race then its a matter of who has more skill. Its like stock car racing ... When everything is the same, its all on the driver. We dont have full specs on each car and can only get guesses and what someone remembers. Any knowledge of having ownzoring ANYONE in any of the two conditions doesnt really apply cause again the driver is one of the biggest variables in racing. i just got back from the garage and the car won't start and i have really weird compression. like 120,125,210,and 70 so old dudes y8 would prolly beat me. i got my motor from hmotoronline so i will have to put new rings in it. GHEY. but i'm still gonna race em and i have built domestic motors that have exceeded 900 ft /lb torque

ok I understand Seth's P.O.V, but the ZC is not really the GOD of d series.... they are getting older and if they have not had a rebuild I see it would be hard for the zc, to beat a newer y8....
but again seth is right with the 4-2-1 header design he was trying so hard to accomplish...this is 100% true.. I had one on my car...
why not have best of both worlds im actually mounting a d16y8 head to my sohc zc block.....hahaha best of both worlds =)
btw, seth and y8ers esp : LadyNRedSI, I have watched similar moded cars (4th gens) runs against other 4thgens and usually the z6/y8 comes out stronger on top because of the "better flowing heads" vtec.......
so that can put a damper on the ZC.....

No but on the reals dog! The Dohc ZC flows WAY better then the Y8's.... Thats why they rwak for turbo's! The intake and exaust ports are way to big for the stock CR... I asked Larry to do a P&P job on my head he said "I wont port it, I will polish it and clean it up if you want... But honda gave those heads GENEROUSELY LARGE Intake and especialy exaust ports!

damnit dude, you need to just stay home. First of all, polishing your intake side will only hender fuel atomization by making the atomized fuel stick the the port walls and turn into droplets and that will decrease your power. Genious. Secondly, the ZC is "better" for turbos because of the rod to stroke ratio. That is also how the ZC creates better torque. Better torque=more airflow lower in the RPM range which in turn will spool a turbo quicker. Please, just shut up already!!

I just think its gonna be funny when he has to pay lord knows how much to hot smog his shit, while he coulda got a b16a3 out of a del sol and got that shit all legalised and been able to smoke the zc.
