was on the highway and it started missing. took an exit so i could get it to a gas station to look at it. was stopped at a light and it died when i went to take off and wouldn't start back up. i replaced the fuel filter still no luck. fuel pressure is good and injectors are clean. i'm thinking it may have jumped time or the timing chain broke. What's the easist way to check the timming chain if it broke? Where is the plug for the ECU to check the "Service Engine Soon" light. or anything other suggestions on what to check woudl be great.:runaround:

if you got the distrbuter take cap off and turn it over and see if the rotor button is turning and if not it is your chain.

I'll try it when i get off work. How hard is the chain and gears to change on a 3.1. I've done it on an S10 Blazer with a 4.3 but i had plenty of room to work with

the rotor turned and there is no play in the pully. Does anyone know where the plug is for the ECU to test the service engine soon light

The computer isn't going to tell you anything. If you know you're getting fuel, the next step is to check for spark.
