Curious behavior....

i have a 2005 grand am base. and just got the thermostat replaced and it works great again. BUT, when i am cruising usually highway speeds and let off the gas either slightly or completly it feels like its stalling, but it doesent and it doesnt do that when accelerating.
what could be causing this?
any help is very appreciated

when it does this how low your rpms drop?

I would clean IAC valve and passages...........
- replace your pcv valve

also if you don't have a muffler or cat you can get that feeling. (low back pressure in the exhaust system)

yeah as long as the rpms dont drop below 600 you should be alright.

The rpms dont drop that i can see by looking at the tach while its doing it.

But i have had this car for 3 years and it has never done this. and its not a one time thing it keeps happenin while im not accelerating. but do you think it could be something with the trans?

if your rpms do not drop down below 600 rpm you are fine,
- or you are not giving us more details about the situation that you are experiencing.
- do you have the original factory exhaust system?
- also what are you smoking when this happens? :icon16:

It's hard to say just from the desription you've given. I havnt heard of many 2003's and up having any problems with their transmissions. Nothing like the 99-02.

But it wouldnt hurt to have it scanned , probley need a scan tool that can read ABS and other drivetrain dtc's.

It could be nothing, just another glitch in the GMsystem . :dunno:

Ok i think i know what the problem is, it had gotten worse now it hapens when i accelerate now too, it hesitates so im thinkin its gotta be the plugs.

It hesitates when i accelerate lightly, usually not when i accelerate on the aggresive side.

Ok, how many miles on the 05 ???

If you have close to 100k , I'd get the trans fluid and filter changed. :2cents:

Also buy some MAF sensor cleaner and see if that doesnt clear up the hesitation.

It has 77,xxx I had the trans fluid changed not last year, not sure if they did the filter too.

I can get the MAF Cleaner at any auto store right? or do i have to go somewhere special?

Oh and to answer a queston i got earlier and never asnwered, i have a pacesetter cat back exaust on there, and have had it on for about a year now, i also have taylor spyro plug wires and iridium plugs. Dont know if either of those would have anything to do but figured id put it out there.

Yes most part stores carry MAF cleaner.

Just make sure to unplug it before cleaning it, and of coarse make sure its dry before you plug it back in.
