Ford GT40 '68 Le Mans winner

I started this build as a quick semi oob build at the end of last year. i quickly found that to make Fujimi kit look a bit better i needed to do some modifications and get some correct parts to replace Fujimi kit parts. I slightly flared the rear wheelarches, replaced kit wheels and tires with Le Mans Miniatures aftermarket wheelset. Fujimi "carburettors" were replaced with HRM Webers and some scratchbuilt parts. I also used S27 PE set and LMM decals to replace Fujimi decals.

To make rivets on the seats i first covered the seat with BMF, then painted it over with flat black and finally scribed paint away from the rivets with a toothpick. Lot of work, but i think that result was worth it (http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b248/nniemi/GT40_9_68/IMG_0384.jpg).

This is all i have.

To make this method work, you must really make BMF to follow every curve and even those tiny rivet holes. To scribe the paint away i used a toothpick that was cut so that resulting flat end matched the size of rivets. Then i just "rolled" toothpick between my fingers couple of times per rivet. ( That makes something like 500 in total :screwy: ) It is not perfect, but better than just plain black.

While my rivets aren't quite as nice, considering they're deep inside the cockpit and not easily seen, I did mine the easiest way I could think of, using a sharp Verithin (or Prismacolor) silver pencil. It takes about 10 minutes, and you have to keep sharpening the tip, but it looks startlingly realistic, just draw them carefully on the seat (painted satin black). Not as good as this BMF method, but it's a lot less work. Painting them would have been a nightmare, as would have been applying all of them as separate P/E parts.
