2003 Dakota P0456 code

2003 Quad Cab Dakota 4.7 L
P0456 Evap emissions control leak detected.

Any suggestions? Truck has been idling rough at times when I stop at a stop sign and wants to stall. Once I run it for awhile it goes away. Sometimes.

Well the EVAP code can be set from many different things. From leaving the truck running wile filling the gas tank or topping off the tank after the pump clicks. I've had customers that has done both of those. Or it could even be a bad gasket on the fuel cap. There could be a crack in one of the EVAP hoses too. Everytime i've had an EVAP code i've never had the complaint of the vehicle running rough along with it. The easiest way to find an EVAP leak is to smoke the system if you have access to a Emissions smoke machine. If not i would just inspect the hoses and components for cracks or breakage.

inspect the hoses inside of the engine comparment near the booster, also inspect the hoses near the canister espically the 90deg elbow

I had the same problem with my 2003 Dakota. It was 2 cracked hoses near the Pump, and both hoses were cracked under the truck, near the canister. especially the 90 degree elbow. they were cracked right were they went in to the canister. I was able to trim the ends of those back past the cracks and reinstall them.
