Transmission slippy?

97 grandprix 106k auto transmission

I was driving home tonight and I was accelerating and when I got up to about 55mph the car felt like it was caught between 3rd and 4th gear and it did it for about 15 seconds on the highway, then the CHECK Engine soon light came on. I then drove home at a normal speed and the car was fine although CES is still on.

This is the 3rd time this happened in last month although the first 2 times were very minor?

What's going on?

Get it scanned with an odb-ii scanner/scan tool and post the diagnostic trouble code(s) (DTC). It could be engine related like a secondary ignition issue which will affect the transaxle but for now we are speculating until the codes are posted.

I will get it scanned Monday. Like I said it drove home fine for about 10 miles after that happened (CES came on). Could it just possible be a random thing, especiallly after it drove home normal?

I took it to the shop and they said I need new spark plugs and wires that's why the "hesitation" was happening.

Any recommendations on what type of spark plugs and wire set I should get? What about gap size?

I have 97 grand prix gt 107k no mods 3.8engine

I need to get these parts soon. Are the duralast wire set good (part # 4658 at autozone)? I can't find any good wiresets I can pick up locally.

they said plugs with 106k not a bad Idea along with some wire but what was the stored DTC?

I'm not sure what the code was. They said the transmission was fine, but spark plugs and wires needed changing. I'm guessing the hesitation when I the car was "hesitating" if was from the bad plugs and wires, is that possible?

Get it scanned and post the codes, otherwise we could guess all day. At your mileage, you're due for plugs and wires if yours are original equipment as a part of regular maintenance, but that may not have anything to do with your issue.

Please tell me about these scans, as I am still having trouble with what most say is transmission, but it does not "miss out" if I manually shift through 1,2,3 & to overdrive.

It was scanned at Auto Zone, but that was kind of worthless as there was several things all related back to the fuel injector code.

Does the Transmission on a 99 Grand Prix supercharge have some kind of breather (SP) on it?

Sorry to jack-knife the thread but your problems sounds like mine.

BTW I also have new wire and Plugs!! (another AZ suggestion)

Relocate00, as with the suggestions we gave the OP, speculating without the actual DTC's is virtually worthless. Post the codes you have and we can help you.

I am sorry I don't have a code :( that why I was asking about the scans?

unless you mean the codes from where AZ did the check, the ones they say is related to the Fuel Injector.

I do have those, but I will have to wait until I get home.

You know how it is I have talked about my car to everyone, and someone said there was a (valve filter or something) on supercharge that if it needs changed or is clogged it will not let it breath (related to the Transmission) creating the miss. When I asked at the Parts store they looked at me like I had grew horns. So that why I am asking you guys and gals.

That for all your help!
