Brake hose banjo bolts

I just replaced the rotors and calipers (and of course pads and all hardware) but when I reconnected the hoses, they leak when I apply pressure to the brakes. This is even with new washers... Now, I did not bleed the system yet because I was trying to check for leaks first... Would the fact that there is air in the braking system now cause the banjo bolts to leak even with new gaskets? If I go ahead and bleed the brakes, will this solve the leaky banjo bolts?

The other question is the washers I got as direct replacements are rounded on one side and completely flat on the other. Does the orientation of the washer matter? (ie: does the flat part need to be up against the banjo bolt, or the round part, or does it matter.

Orientation of the washers should'nt matter unless there are ridges on one side which would go toward the hose side. You either have dirt or something which is not allowing the washers to seal. Try the original ones if you still have them. They should'nt leak air or brake fluid under any circumstances.

i tried putting them on in different ways and tightened them down real good and it seems to be holding up. I think the problem is, the washers inner diameter are actually a little bigger than the bolts themselves, so it isn't exactly a tight fit on the threads.

After getting them tightened up, I bled them and took the car for a test drive/break in and the seals seemed to hold up. I will check reservoir and ground tomorrow to see if things have changed. It's my girlfriend's car, so I really want it to be safe.
