97 1500 60/40 bench head rests. how do i removed them?

i have a 97 chevy 1500 with a 60/40 split bench seat. i went to install sopme seat covers but realized i couldn't gett he head rests to come off. is there a trick or just pull hard? i yanked up hard on one and i almost ripped the head rest off of the metal bar inside. thankfully i got it to go back down on ther bar. i knos usually there is a small button at the bottom of the post whetre they go into the seat. my seat don't have that button on either seat. i would appreciate any help i can get. thanks.

Look for a small hole where the rods go into the top of the seat, just push a needle or small screwdriver into both and remove the headrest
