When I start my car up with no radio I can hear a gulping sound.. Almost sounds like my engine is gulping water down.. Any Ideas?

What year, what motor, and how many miles?

Could you make a sound clip for us?

In some GM vehicles that I have been, you can hear the coolant from the radiator moving through the system when the water pump is in action making a gulping sound. I am almost sure that is what you are hearing.

If you have the automatic climate control like I do on my 1998 GTP, you may be hearing the motors that control the temperature doors "Hunting". I don't know why they do it, but they do. I believe there is a signal from the PCM to the motor and then from the motor to the PCM. When the PCM controls the motor, the motor's position is fed back to the PCM. I think the motors are constantly moving around. This is just a guess.

Or he could have a coolant leak (LIM Gasket) causing coolant to drain out of the heater core. When he starts it, the heater core gets filled again.

Whats the coolant level at?

It could just be the car is nervous, are you a bad driver?

Seriously though, as Tim asked, what engine do you have and are you losing coolant?
