Bearing noise

I have all the classic signs of a bad bearing. The three indicator lights, humming noise, and the noise dissappearing when turning slightly. The noise seems to be coming from the rear of the car. What are the chances that the rear wheel bearing assembly could be going bad? Also I already replace both the front ones before 80K. Now I have 150K on the car. The replacements were both timken. I know the front ones could be bad again from reading other posts. I would like to know if anyone thinks this is a rear bearing going this time or most likly the front again.

Any definite way to tell if it is the front vs the rear?

Any definite way to tell which side the bad bearing is on other than using an ABS scanner?

We cannot hear the source of the noise from here of course, you need to determine if it is rear or front, jack up the rear see if there is play in the hub, spin the wheel best possible see if you hear any noise. An abs scanner will only tell you the abs signal is bad, not the bearing, this would only happen if the bearing was so loose it skewed the sensor.

I jacked up the back and spun both tires. No discernable noise was noticed at that slow of a rotation. There was more resistance in the drivers side rear vs the passanger, but this could also be a sticking caliper.

What I am asking is given what I described what are the chances that it is the rear vs the front that are bad. Also is there a definite diagnosis that can be done to distinguish the problem between the front and back.

Since you have the ABS/Traction off lights, the ABS scanner should be able to tell you which ABS sensor has the bad signal, and most likely that is also your bad bearing.
The noise should be quieter when turning toward the side with the bad bearing, sue to the reduced load on that side.

If you can't really tell then I would say its the passenger side bearing. I haven't heard of a rear one going bad yet. Also If you turn to the left to put more weight onto that right bearing to see if it gets louder, it may not it could get quieter if the bearing is going bad on the inside edge of the bearing, so don't alwasy trust seeing if its that by turning to put weight on that bearing although it usually works that way but don't count on it. I would say that if you drive somewhere where there is a wall on the drivers side or stick your head out you should hear it there for sure or just plain hear it inside the car, if not then gotta be the passenger side. I wouls jack that side up and spin the wheel and listen to it, although it could be hard to hear like that unless its pretty bad.

I don't have an ABS scanner so can't use that method. I tried two OBII scanners and they don't pick up any codes. I will jack up the front end and spin both tires to see what I notice based on Underscore's recommendation and report back.

In the meantime if anyone else has some advice please provide.

If you cannot determine ft to back by driving it, maybe a pro should be called in here just for a road test/diagnosis.

That would be a waste of $. With testing enough suggestions from you folks I am confident I will figure this out.

I found a pic of a hub job on an alero with the bearing out of it, and some directions for you somewhere else on the net, I wouldn't trust everything it says, use it as a guideline, on my car I got by with the big socket being a normal not deep. When I did mine I broke the axle nut loose with a heavy duty ratchet and using my hydraulic jack to jack up the ratchet with the wheel still on, I didn't have access to some sort of breaker bar.
