P1811 code

I'll say sorry now for the long post but I feel I should explain...

I am selling the GrandPrix :frown: I know, I know why right! sorry guys. anyway, the check engine light has been on for over a year now as I was getting the gas cap code P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected...some history- CEL came on was scanned code 0442 found changed cap good for 3 weeks CEL back on, scanned, same code, replaced cap again, good for 3 weeks CEL back on, scanned, same code and didn't bother replacing cap that time... as I said earlier over a year ago. So someone came to look at the car and brought a scanner to check for codes on the car, you never can be to careful I guess :cool: and the P0442 code was there and an P1811 code Maximum Adjust ---? something, Can't remember it. The guy loves the car but wants it check by a transmission shop to make sure the tranny is good. I don't know if it matters but he cleared the codes for me aswell.

I called 2 transmission shops and both said I need a new tranny with out even looking at it just going by the code. Which I think is crazy :screwy: I will be getting it checked tomorrow at 2 transmission shops and then I will compare notes.

Awhile ago I felt a hard shift going from 1 to 2. It happened 2 maybe 3 times but not consistantly.

My questions..finally... If it is not consistantly doing it can that mean it has corrected itself??

And is it that serious to need a new tranny as the transmision shop guys said?? especially when its not acting up at all

After reading some older post it looks like a PCM or a PCS problem. And would the sea foam be an option to correct things as mentioned in this previous thread that I posted in...

Oh its a 2002 gt with 197800kms and transmission fluid and filter were changed just over 2 years ago.

I did read this post before and got a pan gasket and a screen filter but not the shift kit as I don't know if it is needed...

I took it to 3 transmission shops today. The first didn't find any codes just a shift time for the 2-3 shift off by 0.35 seconds. He reset the shift times and then I went to another shop. There the guy said there is major problems with the transmission and in 6 months it will have to be replaced. He said that he could reproduce the 1811 code when he really stepped on the gas and made the engine really work...Thanks for drivin the shi! out of my car!! He also said it is really whinning to get through the gears so the clutch bands are going. I then took it to the third shop and there when the car was scanned it showed an 1814 code-- max tourque converter--- Something like that which can be done by pressing the brake pedal and then pushing the gas causing an increase in RPM's and the speed of the vehicle not being where it should be setting off the code. I guess this can be called the stall test?? That was the only code showing on the third scan and the shift times were all on track. He cleared the code and suggested to drive it for a week or so and see if a code comes back which makes sense to me.

At each shop I went to they all used the same scanner as well.

So I'm left wondering is there really a problem or is working fine?

with a 197K it may need a OH. Your probably not going to find a shop to put the solenoid in with that many miles anyway. The one shop is full of it its whinning so the bands are going out give me a break. So if want to sell it "as is" you might have to take a little less.

Well, I've been driving the car around for a bit and the CEL came on. Went to the shop on Weds and heard back Friday...It was the gas cap code (P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected) So I don't think the tranny is falling apart yet.

I'm not to worried as the person who originally came with the scanner to scan the car is buying it any way!!! :smokin:
